Check engine light ON, vtec still works
I drive a 2000 Honda civic SI which I've had for 5 or so months, I was not experienced in driving a car with a manual transmission so it tool me some time to get used to the way it all works. I've been doing a lot of reading on the way that vtec works and all that and I found out that if your check engine light is on vtec will not engage. Well my check engine light is on but I can still shift all the way up at 7000 something that I found out from reading a post in another thread that I would not be able to do if vtec wasnt engaging. Has anyone else ever seen this happen?

pull the check engine light using the link above or use a scanner and post code

it depends on the code.

Depending on the code. My vtec still engages although I have a VSS sensor issue at the moment.

Check this thread out:
https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/how-pull-cel-d4-srs-abs-codes-code-lists-1901557/ Figure out the code and post it up. |
Re: Check engine light ON, vtec still works
your vtec probly isn't engaging, rev limit with vtec on a b16a is mid 8k rpms, not 7. you shouldn't be taking your car that high if your cel is on any ways that's asking for trouble.
