Running rich?
I have a 96 civic ex sedan that is bone stock. I think it is running rich since every time i drive it, stand outside of it when it's one, etc. i can smell gas. Especially if i were to rev the egine a lil bit. I am guessing it is because I have no muffler since the last owner "sawed it off". -.-
anyway i can get it back to normal. And i know i sound like a nub but i don't want to take it to a shop and end up paying a shit load of money for something i could do by myself. Plus I want to know what are some of the possibilities also. |
Re: Running rich?
Are both O2 sensors intact and working? Are you seeing black smoke? Any CELs?

Re: Running rich?
If you are smelling gas you may have a leak some where check all your lines under the car maybe the fool that "sawed off" the exhaust also nicked a gas line also look for black smoke coming from your exhaust as that indicates unburnt gas also you could monitor your gas milage and see how good/bad it is good luck

Re: Running rich?
This may sound overly stupid and obvious...but are you smelling gas when the car is cold/warming up?
If so, that's pretty normal because it runs a little rich at first to warm up. If not that, then I agree with Jdubbs in that maybe the dumbass owner hit a gas line. |
Re: Running rich?
Working o2(s)??? - And you can buy a cheap quiet muffler (or loud if you prefer) - and have a shop put it on for like 20-30 bucks...

Re: Running rich?
O2 snsors are working and ima check to see if the gas line is still intact. But it warms up fine and all, just smelling gas when i drive it after it warms up like in the middle of the day. I live in sw florida so it doesnt really get cold here.
