Civic Ex Swap with a B18B1 - What year Acura does this engine come from?

I just got a 1995 Honda Civic Ex with a swap engine.I ask someone from which Acura the engine come from and they told me is from a 1998 Acura Integra LS.But I'm not sure if that person that I asked is right.I have to fix some stuff and I need to be sure what year it is and from what car it is.I know is from an Acura Integra but I'm not sure which one.Who ever can help me I will appreciated.

Check the stampings on the head (if there are any).

B18B1 comes from 94-01 Acura Integra LS. OBD1 motors are 94-95, and OBD2 motors are 96-01. If your distributer plug is a two piece it is a OBD1 motor, and if it is a one piece it is a OBD2 motor.

Where is the distributer plug located and how does it looks like?

It's on the left side of your head, it has your spark plug wires running out of it. Look on the back side of it and you should be able to see your plug.

That's the block. Not the head.

From what I can tell is looks as though you have an OBD1 motor. So if you were to go get parts for it you would need parts for a 94-95 Acura Integra LS.

Re: Civic Ex Swap with a B18B1 - What year Acura does this engine come from?

if i had to guess, it would be from an obd2 integra, since you have the evap purge that bolts directly to the IM, and the pcv in the valve cover. but that's not to say whoever swapped it didn't convert the motor to obd2. you have an obd1 transmission on there.

only way to really know is check the head stamp. and then check to see if the block had the black catch can on the back, only obd1 motors had them.

Judging from your picture, and assuming nobody has swapped valve covers, it looks to be an obdII engine (96-01)

Here is how you truly check the exact year......

Is that a spectre air filter? I would get a foam or a K&N filter if I was you.. those spectre filters hardly do anything.

Looks like your valve covers peeling a little bit. I'd get a fresh paint job on it, and tuck some wires in your bay/clean it up a little bit.

Any plans/goals as far as performance?

Yeah the filter is a spectre filter, if i buy a K&N Filter,do i have to change the whole intake with the filter,or can i just take the spectre filter out and put a K&N on it....Yeah i have plans for performance but don't know what to do.

Then you don't have plans. First thing I would do is get a manual for your car. And since it is a hybrid you have to get the manual for your chassis and one for the car the engine came out of.

I'm not sure, I think you can just pull the spectre filter off and pop a new K&N cone filter on. I have a foam filter on my setup, never messed with K&N before.

I've got a Haynes manual for my car, and it covers 92-00 Civics and 94-01 Integras. So it's like two birds with one stone :)
