THIS IS IN PROGRESS AND WILL CONSTANTLY BE UPDATED. I JUST POSTED HERE TO SEE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE IN FINAL FORM. BARE WITH ME AS I WILL SLOWLY ADD SECTIONS. THANKS 92-00 Swap Wiring Guide for VTEC and Non-VTEC Being around here and the scene for a bit I figured I’d try to compile one thread that would try to answer pretty much 95% of all questions concerning swap specific wiring for 92-00 Civics of all models. Mostly this will be B and D series engines as they are the most common swaps, as I’m not that familiar with too many H or F series specifics, however I’ll add some links to good write ups for these. Also I won’t include any K or J series either as they are bit out of my realm and there are some good write ups already concerning the swap in general. If you would like something added or need to correct me PM me instead of posting in the thread so we don’t clog it up too much. I wanted to do this because often times I end up posting the same thing to answer people and retype what I’ve answered in previous threads. I don’t know everything but I love to learn what I don’t know and put it out there for people to solve their problems and also for them to learn more as well. Thanks Swapping OBD1 engine/ECU into OBD1 Civic (note for all 92 Civics the VTEC is already ran on the shock tower to ECU harness so using an EX/SI 92-95 engine harness will make VTEC plug and play. See figure 5) D16Z6/D15B(JDM)*/Mini Me using P28 ECU *If your JDM D15B doesn’t have a VTEC pressure switch you will need to unscrew this bolt and thread in one from any 90-01 Civic/Integra/Accord (See figure 2) DX/LX - D15B7 -Will need to wire up VTEC solenoid and VTEC pressure switch to the P28 ECU all else will be plug and play (See figure 1) CX - D15B8 -Will need to wire up VTEC solenoid and VTEC pressure switch to the P28 ECU (figure 1). If your CX model is NOT 4 wire you will need to wire up the 3 additional O2 connections below to the ECU (figure 1). VX - D15Z1 For VTEC wiring see above pic. For knock sensor and IAB wiring see above pic (if using the chipped P28 you won’t need to wire IAB or knock sensor). If your VX has 7 wires you will need to wire up to make it 4 wire (diagram here http://www.hybridautomotive.com/tech/o2/) B16A3/B17A/B18C1/B18C(OBD1 JDM) using chipped P28/P30/P61/P72 ECU EX/Si - D16Z6 VTEC is plug and play. For knock sensor and IAB wiring (figure 1)(if using chipped P28 IAB and knock sensor won’t need to be wired up). All else is plug and play. DX/LX - D15B7 For VTEC wiring see above pic. For knock sensor and IAB wiring (see figure 1) (if using P28 you won’t need to wire IAB or knock sensor). All other wiring is plug and play. CX - D15B8 For VTEC wiring see above pic. For knock sensor and IAB wiring (see figure 1) (if using the chipped P28 you won’t need to wire IAB or knock sensor). If your CX model is NOT 4 wire you will need to wire up the 3 additional O2 connections below to the ECU (figure 1). All other wiring is plug and play. VX - D15Z1 Reuse VTEC solenoid and pressure switch wiring for plug and play. If your VX has 7 wires you will need to wire up to make it 4 wire (diagram here http://www.hybridautomotive.com/tech/o2/) B18A(OBD1)/B18B in DX/CX/VX/EX using P74/P75 ECU/all chipped OBD1 ECU’s LX/DX/EX - D15B7/D16Z6 Plug and play. CX/VX - D15B8/D15Z1 Plug and play. For 1 wire CX models you will need to wire in the additional 3 wires for the 4 wire O2 (see figure 1). If your VX has 7 wires you will need to wire up to make it 4 wire (diagram here http://www.hybridautomotive.com/tech/o2/). All else is plug and play. OBD2 engine/OBD1 ECU into OBD1 Vehicle (note for all 92 Civics the VTEC is already ran on the shock tower to ECU harness so using an EX/SI 92-95 engine harness will make VTEC plug and play.) D16Y8 using P28 EX/Si/VX - D16Z6/D15Z1 Mostly plug and play. VTEC plug and play. Knock sensor will not be used for the P28 ECU. The EX/Si/VX distributor will not bolt up to the Y8 head exactly. You can use it but not all legs will bolt up. To use the Y8 distributor you will need an OBD2A or OBD2B to OBD1 adapter harness. The intake air temperature sensor is not located on the intake manifold of the Y8’s so you will need to relocate your IAT sensor in the intake arm (figure 3) OR use the Z6/Z1 manifold which will bolt up to the Y8 head fine. Reuse the Z6 injectors as the Y8’s will not plug in correctly. For the VX you will need to use some EX/SI/DX injectors for similar Y8 flow rates. Also reuse the Z6/Z1 alternator as the Y8 uses a different plug style. CKF sensor by the crank on the Y8 will not be used tie it out of the way. For the VX model use the above instructions to convert the 5 wire O2 to 4 wire (diagram here http://www.hybridautomotive.com/tech/o2/). LX/DX/CX - D15B7/D15B8 Mostly plug and play. Will need to wire up VTEC solenoid and pressure switch (figure 1). Reuse the DX/CX distributor as it will bolt up. To use the Y8 distributor you will need an OBD2A or OBD2B to OBD1 adapter harness. The intake air temperature sensor is not located on the intake manifold of the Y8’s so you will need to relocate your IAT sensor in the intake arm (figure 3) OR use the CX/DX manifold which will bolt up to the Y8 head fine. You can use the DX injectors as they are the same flow rate. For the CX you will want to get some EX/SI/DX injectors as they are a higher flow rate as the Y8’s. Also reuse the CX/DX alternator as the Y8 uses a different plug style. CKF sensor by the crank on the Y8 will not be used tie it out of the way. B16A2/B18C1 (OBD2)/B18C5 using chipped P28/P30/P72 EX/SI/VX - D16Z6/D15Z1 Mostly plug and play. VTEC plug and play. Knock sensor will not be used for the P28 ECU but will for all others. To use the A2/C1/C5 distributor you will need an OBD2A or OBD2B to OBD1 adapter harness. The intake air temperature sensor is not located on the intake manifold of the A2 so you will need to relocate your IAT sensor in the intake arm (see pic). Reuse the Z6 injectors as the A2/C1/C2 will not plug in correctly. For the VX you will need to use some EX/SI/DX injectors for similar A2 flow rates. Wire up VTEC as pictured above. Knock sensor will not be used for the P28 ECU but will for all others. To use the A2/C1/C5 distributor you will need an OBD2A or OBD2B to OBD1 adapter harness. The intake air temperature sensor is not located on the intake manifold of the A2 so you will need to relocate your IAT sensor in the intake arm (see pic). Reuse the DX injectors as the A2/C1/C2 will not plug in correctly. For the CX you will need to use some EX/SI/DX injectors for similar A2 flow rates as the OBD2 injectors won’t plug into the OBD1 plugs. You will need to use an OBD1 B series alternator for plug and play. CKF sensor by the crank on the A2/C1/C5 will not be used tie it out of the way. For the 1 wire 02 CX model use figure 1 to convert the 1 wire to 4 wire. B18B/B20B/Z(OBD2) using P75 ECU EX/SI/VX/DX/CX - D16Z6/D15Z1/D15B7/D15B8 Mostly plug and play. For the distributor you will need to use an OBD1 B18 for plug and play or use an OBD2 LS dizzy with an adapter harness. Alternator will need to be OBD1 B series for plug and play. For EX/SI/DX you can reuse the EX/SI/DX injectors, for VX/CX find some EX/DX/SI injectors for plug and play. CKF sensor by crank will not be used. For 1 wire O2 CX models figure 1 instructions for conversion to 4 wire O2. For VX 7 wire O2 use above instruction to wire up for 4 wire (diagram here http://www.hybridautomotive.com/tech/o2/). OBD0 engine into OBD1 vehicle using OBD1 ECU B18A (OBD0) using P75 OBD1 ECU EX/SI/DX/CX/VX - D16Z6/D15Z1/D15B7/D15B8 Mostly plug and play. The alternator will plug in as the OBD0 and OBD1 alternator plugs are the same. For injectors you will need to reuse the EX/SI/DX injectors and for CX/VX find some EX/SI/DX injectors and use those. The fan switch location is different for the OBD0 engine and is on the back of the block. You will have to rewire the fan switch from the thermostat housing of your engine to the back of the block. The wiring order doesn’t matter so you will need either some connectors from a junk yard or some way to wire it up to that location (see pics below). For VX 7 wire O2’s (diagram here http://www.hybridautomotive.com/tech/o2/) and CX 1 wire O2 use figure 1 to rewire for 4 wire. OBD2 engine into OBD2 vehicle using OBD2 ECU (NOTE: YOU CAN NOT MIX 96-98 OBD2A and 99-00 OBD2B ENGINE AND DASH HARNESSES WHEN SWAPPING ENGINES INTO 96-00 CIVICS AS THE ECU CONNECTORS ARE DIFFERENT SEE FIGURE 11 D16Y8 using P2P ECU DX/LX/CX - D16Y7 Mostly plug and play. VTEC solenoid, VTEC pressure switch and knock sensor will need to be wired in (Figure 6 for OBD2A, Figure 7 for OBD2B). Also the idle air control valve will need to be wire from 3 wire to 2 wire (Figure 6 for OBD2A, Figure 7 for OBD2B). The secondary O2 sensor wiring will have to be lengthened by using an O2 adapter if you are using an EX style catalytic converter. The intake air temperature sensor will have to be relocated in the intake arm somewhere as the Y8 manifold doesn't have a place for it (see figure 8). HX - D16Y5 Mostly plug and play. Reuse VTEC solenoid and VTEC pressure switch. 5 speed models will have to wire up the knock sensor as the only models with knock are CVT's (see figure 6 as all HX models 96-00 are wired for OBD2A). 7 wire O2 will need to be wired to 4 wire (eastcoasthondas.com - eastcoasthondas Resources and Information.). B16A2/B18C1/B18C5 using P30(OBD2A)/P2T/P72 EX - D16Y8 Mostly plug and play. Reuse VTEC solenoid, VTEC pressure switch, and knock sensor wiring. Secondary O2 may have to be extended if if doesn't reach. For B18C1 the IAB's will have to be wired on the P72 ECU (see figure 6 for OBD2A and figure 7 for OBD2B). The intake air temperature sensor will have to be relocated in the intake arm somewhere as the A2 manifold doesn't have a place for it (see figure 8). For B18C1 and C5 you can also convert over to the round style IAT and place the connector on the manifold (see figure 9 for plug style). DX/LX/CX - D16Y7 Mostly plug and play. VTEC solenoid, VTEC pressure switch and knock sensor will need to be wired in (Figure 6 for OBD2A, Figure 7 for OBD2B). Also the idle air control valve will need to be wire from 3 wire to 2 wire (Figure 6 for OBD2A, Figure 7 for OBD2B). The secondary O2 sensor wiring will have to be lengthened by using an O2 adapter if you are using an EX style catalytic converter. The intake air temperature sensor will have to be relocated in the intake arm somewhere as the A2 manifold doesn't have a place for it (see figure 8). For B18C1 and C5 you can also convert over to the round style IAT and place the connector on the manifold (see figure 9 for plug style). HX - D16Y5 Mostly plug and play. For the HX the 7 wire O2 will need to be wired to 4 wire (eastcoasthondas.com - eastcoasthondas Resources and Information.). DX/LX/CX - D16Y7 Mostly plug and play. Thanks been dinking around for days looking for info. This is good stuff. I have a 93 civic vx getting tired would like to swap up for a little more power when it dies.Any suggestions on a good fit without cutting and fabricated mounts and such. Not looking to break land speed records just a little more kick. Thanks really loving my Honda,

There's lots of arguments but for the money the B20z is a fun motor with a good amount of power and torque. Couple that with a GSR or LS transmission. Look in the hybrid forum here for mounts, shift linkage, axle information but its a relatively inexpensive and easy swap. Any other dseries swap is going to leave you wanting more and really not worth the time unless you go turbo.

Hey I have a 1997 Honda civic dx and I put a zc Honda 1.6 vtec engine in it can i run and drive the car without a vtec ecu , and could I go to the wreckers and get a ecu and harness out of a 96-99 1.6 vtec si and put it in my car would it work?

Figure 4 (OBD0 fan switch/OBD1 fan switch) it shows a b18a that has been modded for lsv. the knock sensor isnt the correct factory location. this may be misleading towards newcomers. most of us know thats not the correct location. |

for the cabin harness side plug what color is the line to the fuel pump i have issues with my connectors my fuel pump likes to flicker on and off because of a weak connection im assuming
