Google images for VTEC solenoid then see if you have one. If it is stock you should have.

But to make power? Nothing short of Forced Induction or an Engine Swap. Check section #4 of the FAQs.

what about a good chip??

Re: 96 civic ex - what upgrades to get a lil more juice?

chips are for engines that already have been modified.

d-series motors are already very efficient from the factory, thats why basic bolt-ons don't give crazy power

but i digress, you don't need a chip unless you need to run different fuel and ignition maps for larger amounts of air

Yes. Unfortunately.

Yes, or a swap.

Even a stock swap isn't going to be fast. Not unless you get a big displacement motor like an h2b or a k20.

Forced induction is the most cost-effective way to go fast for honda civics, period. You'll go faster per dollar spent with a turbo than any n/a build.

Reliability lies in the quality of the parts and the tune.

just got my girl a 98 ex and have only done intake, exhaust and a valve adjustment so far and right away you could feel the power gain. by no means will this make it a 10sec car but should be simple bolt ons to get a noticeable diff from your car. GOOD LUCK

That's all in your head. All you really did was shift your power band. Been there. Done that. Your butt dyno needs recalibrating because at MOST you put 10 horsepower on it..

Bolt on's will do VERY little to a sohc. If you want a bolt on, all I can say is cam it and save your money for a swap. Oh btw it's VTEC NOT VTECH, last I checked Honda never made phones..

I have a intake on my civic, and I adjusted the valves.
I got noithing, besides a loud/sometimes annoying car.

greddy bolt on turbo kit. Yes, it's a bolt on! Yes, you will notice a increase with this bolt on! :P

"Bolt On" turbo. In my opinion, engines should not be blown unless they are built to be blown. Scary things can happen with stock bottom ends and high boost.

What the **** are you talking about?

Who anything about high boost? Just becuase it's doens't mean it can't handle 5-8psi comfortably.

The Greddy bolt on turbo was made for this. it's not a race kit, just something to get the civic a little kick in the ass.

Ah, 5-8psi isn't bad. I was expecting like some crazy 20psi turbo which would tear the engine apart for some reason.

Stock, yea theres no way it's doing 20psi for very long.

I don't even think the Greedy kit can produce 20psi. It's really not meant to make the car a beast.

It's just a simple "bolt on'' turbo kit, to make up for what the car is lacking. Hell, the kit is even carb legal!!

Gotta say, I'm impressed. Do you even have to drill for an oil line to the turbo? I know some cars have stock low-psi turbos that add a bit of fun. Do you even have to upgrade injectors or pump or anything?

Re: 96 civic ex - what upgrades to get a lil more juice?

the kit includes the stuff you need to make it all happen. if you're making more than 10psi, that's the time you gotta start upgrading internals, your injectors, etc...

basic upgrades, as always: intake and exhaust systems.. there's a bunch of info on this all over hondatech.. y'all just gotta figure out how much you wanna spend on upgrades...

Sometimes I dream about being an internet fascist dictator and forcing people to know what they're talking about before the make allegations. Bolt ons on a d-series usually just shift the powerband. Sure, it feels more powerful when you rev it up to high RPMs, but you don't notice the butt-load of torque you lost on the bottom end because as humans we're optimistic and want to believe that our $500-1000 we wasted on bolt ons is actually going to do something.

A lot of you guys are shooting yourselves in the foot by taking what your homies say for un-dismissible truth.

Obviously an uninformed opinion. Nearly 3 years boosted. No issues.

Drill for an oil line? You need to read up more. The Greddy kit is TRULY meant to just be bolted on. No upgrading anything is needed. They put quite a few years of R&D into it unlike the Chinese knock-off kits floating around Ebay.

Not that I know of. The kit is truely a bolt in desgin. There is no modifcations that need to made to the car for it to work.

Can't say this is about ebay turbo kits.

Its made to work with the stock engine, and any other upgrades to the car would just be a plus.
