p1457 on a 2003 CR-v

Hey all, newb here. My wife has always had Hondas and we have been very happy with htem. We currently have an '03 CRV. My neighbor across the st has 2 of the same. His son is getting p1457 evap code. I read some threads here and posted TSB 03-001 that I found but it only listed 98-01 CRV. They took it to a hack in town who replaced a soleniod by the air intake on the motor and charged him 300$. The car threw the code 1 day later. I am a diesel mechanic and don't work on gassers much but I am a mechanic. So what could it be ? Same as the TSB said ? They have been driving it for awhile. Could they have damaged the ECM ? From what I read the sol is suppoed to be under the car ? But the one they replaced was not ? Also possibly the canister vent ? Anyone know where this stuff is located on an 03 crv. I figure my wife's will probably do the same thing at some point so might as well figure it out now on theirs...
Any help/pics would be great.
Thanks
I have a cheapy code reader but no bi directional scan tool. I could possibly download the asian software for carcode but I really hate the software and was considering switching to Auto eng.

Very Very VEry common problem. Canister vent shut valve. and maybe even a canister.
You wont screw up the PCM or anything. No worries man.
Here is the newest TSB from honda

Honda TSB 08-016

The MIL comes on with DTC P1457 (EVAP control
system leakage).
PROBABLE CAUSE
The EVAP solenoid valve (fuel vent module) is blocked
or restricted.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Install an EVAP solenoid valve kit.

It is located under the car directly under the fuel door. It is a black box and the canister vent shut valve is held on by 2 small philips screws.

There is a bulletin that DeanHondaPGH listed above pertaining to the evap valve, but before you replace it check basics first. Make sure they hooked the hoses and connector back up to the purge soleonoid. That is the evap piece located near the air filter. Make sure the canister vent hose isn't clogged with trash and leaves.

Absolutely right. You must check the basics before you do anything. But 99.9% of the time its the shut valve. It is very common on these.
