OIL light blinking on 1991 Honda Accord DX
I went outside and cranked the car just to see if it would start right up cause it has been having trouble starting. But if I turn the key to on position and hold it for a few second it cranks right up. I was thinking it could be the main relay but I can hear it click and hear the fuel pump come on. Today I crunk it up let it run for a little while and the OIL LIGHT started blinking so I gave it a little acceleration and rpm went up and drop all the way down and the car went dead:thud:. But it started right back up. CHECKED DIPSTICK AND IT READS FULL. PLEASE HELP ASAP THANKS

Oil switches can go bad. Look for leaks, check the wire.
As far as the starting, going to need a little more info......you say "I turn the key to on position and hold it for a few second it cranks right up"???? Could be the main relay....could be the switch? Key to on, does the cel come on and go off? If you hold the key "slightly" forward does the car stay running? |

It sounds like the main relay to me. Once you get it out, you can take the cover off and check it for carbon scoring along the solder points. It will be a grey box down by your left foot. It looks like the attached.
The oil light problem might be the oil pressure relay, which is right near your oil filter on the back of your engine. There should be a cord leading to it. It screws right out, but have a pan ready, because oil will get everywhere. |

Hang on just a sec.....when the condition is right for the car not to start, turn the key to on (pos II)...does the cel come on and turn off...cel on, pump primes, cel off it stops?
When was the last time a tune up (cap, rotor, inspect wires, plugs-I see plugs were replaced) done on the car. |

Re: OIL light blinking on 1991 Honda Accord DX
The oil pumps on a most vehicles produce pulses of oil volume, and if you teeter on the edge of low oil pressure, the light may flicker on and off as the pulses of oil are delivered.
It would smart to at least verify your oil pressure, and replace the oil pressure switch as required. |
Re: OIL light blinking on 1991 Honda Accord DX
I own a 91 Accord and had the flashing Oil light and replaced the Sending unit with one from Napa, problem solved.I do know that the old Sending unit would start to slightly flash if I had too many miles on the oil,was kind of strange ?.But was running a cheap brand 5-30 and cheapest filter around, not doing that anymore I use better stuff now :)
