New clutch master cylinder; clutch stays on floor
 

I have a 1994 EG coupe and I just installed a new clutch master cylinder.
I have tried bleeding it while having someone pressing the pedal and also tried gravity bleeding but the clutch still only stays half way up. It won't rise completely. There are no leaks in the system.
Any ideas?

Did you bench bleed it before putting it in? Have you checked out your slave cylinder? If you didn't bench bleed it, then you most likely still have air in the system and will need to continue bleeding, and bleeding, and bleeding, and bleeding some more.............

No I do not know what bench bleeding is. How much longer should I bleed for? Is it fine if I gravity bleed?

Bench bleeding is when you pump fluid through the MC before you install it in the car to get all the air bubbles out of the chambers. Since you didn't do that, you are gonna have to bleed the shit out of the system to get all the air out. It will just take time. Be SURE you don't let the reservoir run dry or you will have to start the process all over. Good luck man. I know it's frustrating. Just keep pumping. :P

Bleed it like normal, but keep the fluid coming as it's draining... If your cm runs out of fluid it sucks air...

Alright cus I have no one else with me so I wanted to just gravity bleed by holding the pedal up and leaving the bleeder valve open.

Man I just had to do this not too long ago. It's going to end up being a LOT easier if you just take the MC back off and bench bleed it. Look up the bench bleeding procedures and do it, trust me, I didn't bench bleed it either, had to take it all off again. Once I bench bled it, and then bled it normally (still a lot of bleeding), it works like a charm.

Thing is I complicated the process a lot and ended up using JB weld to seal a leak on the copper piping attaching to the clutch master cylinder, so I can't take it off. Would it be fine if I gravity bled my clutch cus I know that is easier than pump bleeding it.

Just take the shit off, get new lines and do it right!!! Your brakes are single handedly the most important thing on the car. Not worth halfassing it with some jbweld, I know that stuff is strong but still what if it goes from the constant pumping of the brake pedal.

Gravity bleeding is fine for bleeding a system already free of air, and not the best for bleeding out air.

Without a bench bleed doing a gravity bleed? Shit, hours.

When I did it the right way, I still had to pump the pedal and release air 10-20 times before I had a solid stream of fluid shooting out.

Still air in the system....

there probably isn't enough fluid to push through the upwards bend in the clutch line next to the MC.

Dang alright. I was at it for like an hour today. So I will cut the brake line and bench bleed the clutch master cylinder. Anyone tips to bench bleed?

Oh wow, reading comp goes right out the window when I'm drunk.... My bad.

Anyways, hopefully you'll have a Bench vice.
Clamp the MC by one side of its mounting flange in the Vice
String the Bowl up above the MC or have a friend hold it up for you. Fill it to the Brim and recap it .
Now find a Nail or a small piece of wood or brass would be better so you don't mark the ID.
Look at the hose that connects to the Slave. Look at the connector on the very end. There is a plunger or Check Valve in the end. You put the nail's pointy end on that plunger. Try pushing it in. You will get the feel for it. Now you need to do a coordinated movement here.
Hold the hose and connector above the MC.
As you are pushing the Clutch rod in you need to push that nail in to let the fluid come out.
Before you let off the Clutch rod you need to let loose with the nail and put your bare thumb over the end of the connector so it does Not Suck in any air.
Do this 5 to 6 times to get all the air out of the master. You know when the air is out when, You try to push the rod in with out releasing the plunger on the hose end and its rock hard. If you feel any sponginess it still has air in it.
Now fill the bowl to the brim and stuff the rubber bladder in, screw on the cap and you are done.

If all of that doesn't work try adjusting the master cylinder where the pivot point meets up with the clutch pedal that will also make it want to act as if it had air in the system by keeping the pedal on the ground... It looks like a nut where the master meets underneath the dash its hard to miss and pretty easy to do

Got the clutch bleeding. I got it up to 60% bled pretty quickly but now it seems like I am making no progress to get the rest of it bled! Been using the same technique. pump 5x open valve close valve release pedal. Don't seem to be making progress from here on out.
