car shakes when accelerating

I got a 1994 honda civic hatch with b20 turbo. I know this has been posted alot but what i get from it is ur motor mounts bad, and is ur cv axle bad, but how do i check to see if the motor mounts are bad, and when i turn the wheel to the right i can hear a clicking coming from the front driver side and when i checked it the outer and inner boots were broken, but would a that bad of cv axle cause it to shake when accelerating from 1st through 3rd?

Re: car shakes when accelerating

if its vibrating bad when accelerating something is out of balance and can cause major damage. is the clutch ok nothing broken? yes i would assume the cv joint is bad but this should not cause vibrations when accelerating

Re: car shakes when accelerating

yeah the clutch should be ok, the guy i bought the car from put in a stage one or stage two clutch but it does feel fine

what kind of flywheel OEM or aftermarket? is so what kind? is it lightened?

Re: car shakes when accelerating

your axles could be the entire root of the problem. depending on how bad they are they can absolutely cause all that vibrating when accelerating.

Re: car shakes when accelerating

More than likely the cv joint is bad. Could be a rough wheel beaing or a damaged axle as well.

Re: car shakes when accelerating

What axles and what mounts do you have?

My friend's old car shook very badly. New mounts(innovative) and axles almost got rid of all vibrating. Of course the mounts can cause a little vibration because they are stiffer.

It's actually very common for bad CV joints to cause vibration under acceleration.

I went out their and used my phone to record it, so how much would it end up costing to replace them?

Re: car shakes when accelerating

u def knw when u got bad motors mounts if the motor moving alot when u accelerate or deaccelerate it will feel like the whole car is shaking. according to the vid u posted they dont look that bad have a friend power brake and check for stress cracks on the rubber part of the mount replace it with some strong one like poly ones or oe if u cant afford them. but it does sound u got a bad axel or possible bad tires to

tundra2000 06-18-2011 02:17 PM

Re: car shakes when accelerating

yeah i was power braking it, but with the car off i can see small cracks

Re: car shakes when accelerating

sounds like a bad axle esspecially if it clicking... check for worn motor mounts

Re: car shakes when accelerating

looks like you need motor mounts

Re: car shakes when accelerating

Are you running torque mounts?

I would replace the mounts. That things all over the place!

Also adjust those dang valves lol

Re: car shakes when accelerating

Do the valves need adjusting? and for mounts should i go with polyurethane motor mounts. but for now till i get the money to replace them is their anything i can do or use for a temporarily motor mount fix?

Re: car shakes when accelerating

and shouldn't the rubber part in the mount suppose to fill the whole mount, cus when i look at it i see the top part but theirs no rubber on the bottom part, is that normal?

I've seen pro dragster do a valve adjustment on each pass.
As for street driving, it wouldn't require that unless you race it.

And regarding your options for motor mount:
temporary fix would be buying the polyurethane...
if you have money you can buy the billet racing mounts.
but if you don't like the stiffness and vibration, get the oem mounts. But that will crack eventually through time if you abuse your motor.

Yes, I would adjust the valves you can clearly hear them in the video.

You can try filling the mounts for now, it would hold the engine alot tigher, but this will cause the car to viberate. Not like it is now, but it will. The tighter the engine is held in the move viberation, however, the engine will NOT move like that ever again.

:ugh: Your jokeing right?

It doesn't matter if the car see's 10k every day or never goes above 3k. They will all sooner or later NEED a valve adjustment. You can very clearly hear the valves clicking in the video, this would tell you the vales need to be adjusted.

Okay, I'll refrain. Some people would adjust it every 2nd oil change; others would adjust it during a timing belt/water pump job. And finally, some dealership would do it on the 30k mark.
...what I meant of my statement was, similar to the 3k miles oil change theory. You don't have to change your oil every 3k miles. It all depends on the situation. Sometimes you have to change it earlier, and sometimes you can change it a little later. "It all depends on the use of it".
...as for the video, to me, I don't think you need an adjustment yet because it is not that rough. But as I mention.... you can do the adjustment if you like. That's my thoughts.

Re: car shakes when accelerating

I recently replaced the front passenger axle on a 99 si and now there is a shaking while accelerating. Its that bad but i can definately feel it. The axle is from Oreilly since i could not take apart the oem one to fix a ripped boot. The shaking was not there before replacing the axle.

Ive replaced every motor mount on the car except for the rear one. Ive looked at it and it has some cracks on the rubber.

Re: car shakes when accelerating

Check the axles and the motor mounts. My money is on the mounts. It's possible that you have frame damage and just don't know it. You should post pictures of your engine bay and give the guys here a second look at it if you're still having the problem.
