96 Accord Brakes to floor
Have a 1996 Honda Accord EX Wagon. The Brake pedal goes all the way to the floor, and will not hold the car still at idle. With engine off brake pedal fells good, press brake pedal start engine pedal drops, going all the way to the floor.
I have personally bleed the brakes from nearest to master cylinder to furthest, have got all the air out , see no signs of any leaks, system is full of brake fluid, new pads all way around, any thoughts? |

Bad master cylinder? I thought you bleed the furthest corner then go closest to bmc.

Re: 96 Accord Brakes to floor
To test if it was a defect booster, you need to depress and hold the brake pedal down with engine off. It shouldn't drop; if it does, there you go and needs to be replace. OP said it feels good with engine off, so it's not the booster.
Your' MC is probably bad. Internal seal is probably shot. Get a new MC, bench bleed it, bleed the air out of the lines, and go from there if it fixes the problem. I had a hard brake line to the wheel cylinder broke open on me which burst out brake fluid everywhere causing my pedal to drop to the floor. I immediately stop and got out to look for any signs of fluid dripping and there is. I thought it was a bad wheel cyl, but I was wrong and it turned out to be a bad rusty brake line that went bad on me. Bought the new hard brake line for 2 bucks at Carquest, bend it to fit like the old one, bled the system, and problem solved. |
Re: 96 Accord Brakes to floor
I agree that it's prob the Master Cylinder. That is what my 92 accord was doing and the new MC fixed it. Like someone else said earlier, you should bleed from the furthest from the MC to the nearest.

Re: 96 Accord Brakes to floor
Master cylinder might be shot.
Also the bleed pattern for Accord that year isn't farthest to shortest. It's a cross pattern with Rear Right > Front Left then RL >FR. |
