87 CRX idle issue
Hi, I have an 87 CRX dx. Is this the section I should be in? I didn't see a place for crx's before 88.
Anyway this is my first carb car, I've had lots of efi toyotas and a mazda. So i don't know much about carbs yet. Not every time but a lot of times i let off the throttle slowing down for a stop or anything the car will die. I have to keep on the throttle and brakes at the same time to keep it running. Do anyone have any ideas what it could be? I've done a full tune up. NGK-R plugs, new plug wires, oil change, and some other misc stuff. I don't believe I changed the cap and rotor though, they did look pretty good when I pulled them off. thanks for the help! |
Re: 87 CRX idle issue
it sounds like a carb problem for sure. is it the original one?

Re: 87 CRX idle issue
yeah I would guess it is. The car has 213xxx miles. not positive if it is all original. But seems like it is, and it was pretty nicely maintained from what i can tell.

Re: 87 CRX idle issue
My friend... you have wandered into the wonderful world of carb'ed crx's. I've been tinkering with mine for the 5+ years I've owned it, and they will always be fussy to some extent.
I'm not saying you can't get it running good, just that it will always be fussy. A good start would be to check all your vacuum lines. With your car running, get a can of wd-40 and spray around all your lines. If you hear a change in your idle when you spray a certain line... replace it. |

Cool tip Crxgut. My 86 Civic SI idles up and down sometimes like crazy.
