F23 rods

Who makes them beside Crower? Are they the only ones? Im going to build a f23 since my h22 has a huge hole in the side of it.

Sounds like it would be the same price then. Might as well go with who already has the specs then huh.

Re: F23 rods

Can he use K20 rods? The only difference I can see is that they are 2 mm shorter that F23 rods, which could be good if he's using high compression, domed pistons.

Re: F23 rods

That would make the already bad Rod stroke ratio worse lol. And I'm going with flat top k20 wiseco pistons. And I want rods that can take 8000 rpm with that long stroke. 10.3:1 compression is fine for me.

Re: F23 rods

they are 316 according to wiseco. that's for .5mm overbore.

I don't know if that includes pins and rings or not.

Re: F23 rods

i want better rods anyway. not trying to cheap out, just wanted to know if there were any lower priced aftermarket rods available. i plan on working this motor pretty good. nothing spectacular, i just want an honest 400whp when its all said and done with my old turbo off my truck. its a t04r that i swaped housings to be a t3/t04r. i figure 15-20psi should get me where i want to be. it will be water/meth injected so i'm not worried about 10:1 compression being too much.

Re: F23 rods

But that tiny bore. From 87 h22 to 85 f22. Will that not cause horrible valve shrouding? What can you bore it to? 85.5? I was going 86.5 on the f23 so atleast it would have close to stock bore size for the head. Just wondering here but do they not turbo the k20 motors? Do they do ok with big power and skinny rod bearings? I haven't looked it to it, that's an honest question.

Re: F23 rods

An f22 would be easy to find. Junk yard down the road is full of them. How strong is the girdle on it? I thought the f23 had bigger mains and the stronger girdle. That long stroke is so tempting though. So many decisions. What's the real down side of the slightly smaller bearing when considering the rod is aftermarket and good oil pressure.

Re: F23 rods

I don't have alot of funds for the build. So offset grinding the f22 crank and custom rods are a bit out of my range at the moment. This motor will be a daily driver 40+ miles a day. It won't always see 8000 rpm unless spirited driving is required. My tahoe will see more track time than my car. With my h22 I hardly went over 3500 rpm. Just didn't need it. Lol. Honestly my wife b18 build will get the turbo before me. If I can get enough power and torque with cams and head job it will probably stay that way for awhile. I wouldn't think 235-250hp is too bad of a n/a goal. Is it?

Re: F23 rods

Turns out the number one rod broke and put a hole in the motor and the number two rod bent. Head looks ok from what I can see.
