93 Civic, speedometer works intermittently

I have a 1993 Honda Civic EX model i believe(two door vtec). The car has a lot of miles on it and the speedometer usually does not work. Obviously when it is inop, the miles don't turn either. The tachometer works just fine all the time. I was wondering what problems people have run into in the past, and what solution(how) it can be fixed.

thanks.

Re: 93 Civic, speedometer works intermittently

usually when it has high mileages on it, it tends to not function properly, just like when things get old they go outta wack, nothing last forever, try changing your vss, if it doesent do it, check for corosions on connections, clean it out, if it still doesnt do it, change out the speedo, it should slove ur problem.

ps. if u have a ex,si cluster with the rpm tach, and dont want to spend 50-100 bucks for another use one, just find a cx,dx,vx cluster (usually u can find one for 10-20 bucks) with a good working speedo aka "mph gauge", and just swap out ur old ex,si one to the dx,cx,vx one, it's innerchangable.

good luck!
