I have a 1994 honda civic and when i drive sometimes the speedometer needle does not move or sometimes it goes to outrageous numbers like i could be going 30 mph n it goes all the way to 60 or even 100 what could be the problem?

vehicle speed sensor, its located near the rear or the transmission on top one 10mm bolt holds it in

I have this same problem...I do not think it is the speed sensor. I have replaced that, and it still does it. Im thinking its in the wiring behind the cluster?? It is a DX chassis/body, but has a EX cluster. The car runs like normal, vtec still kicks. So any more info on this would be greatly appreciated!

THANKS!

Do i have to take the car apart to get to the plug or just the cluster?

Re: How to fix broken speedometer.

some times the circuit board goes bad on the rear of the gauge. you'll see this board once you remove the gauge from the cluster housing.

when i bought my car the speedo would randomly work, i changed out the board from a junk yard gauge, and started working right away.
