97 Civic - How to properly bleed the clutch fluid?
 

Hey guys i need help i tried bleeding my clutch fluid out but i am having a problem doing it and my pedal is all the way to the floor can someone explain the process of how to do it by yourself. Thanks in advance.

Get a neighbor to pump the pedal while you bleed it. Takes all of 5 minutes. But if you have no neighbors get one of those one-man bleeder kits from the auto parts store.

Loosen the little nipple thing at the slave cylinder. Hook a hose onto it and run the hose into a jar of brake/"clutch" fluid. Have someone pump the clutch pedal.

Hello, all.

My name is Chris and I live in Chicago.

First off, I want to thank you for the info this site has! It's great and it seems to have a great community.

Secondly, I want to apologize for reviving an old thread.

Now that that's out of the way, onto business!

The directions say, "Make sure there is an adequate supply of brake fluid at the master cylinder, then slowly pump the clutch pedal until no more bubbles appear at the bleeder hose."

Is it possible for there to be air bubbles trapped in the master cylinder? If there is, can i still bleed from the bleeder screw from the slave cylinder?

I own a '93 Honda Del Sol and this is the first real problem I've had with the car since i bought it 2 years ago.
At first i thought that the clutch was sticking due to 'cold weather'. When it finally just stopped working, i looked and saw that there was no more brake fluid in the clutch reservoir (or whatever it's called). I'm not sure if it's due to a leak or not. I filled it up, but the clutch pedal is still to the floor. I'm think there's air in the line somewhere, and bleeding it may help get it working again.

If its empty you have a leak. Either at the master cylinder or slave cylinder or an associated line.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I've searched the forums trying to find a how-to guide on changing the master/slave
clutch cylinder but didn't have any luck.
(Either I'm not searching right, or there isn't one.)
Can someone point me in the right direction?

Have you actually looked at them? They bolt on/off.

Sorry for the delayed response. Christmas time has been busy, and it's
been pretty cold in Chicago.
I finally got the car in the garage and took a look at the problem.
There's a leak just behind the clutch pedal -which I'm guessing is
the backside of the clutch master cylinder.
I saw a how-to video for a nissan truck which gave me a general idea
of what i would need to do.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

This thread is over 3 years old in general and the last post before yours was 3 years ago.

Go to any aquarium store or pneumatic store or water treatment store and I'm sure you can find a wide range of hoses. And quite likely one that will fit snugly onto the nipples of bleeder bolts.

Thread being closed as it's complete and old and dead.
