1991 accord crank/no start issue

i just recently took this car on trade for a vehicle i sold, the previous owner said the car was running good, and would sometimes die at stop lights and then it got to the point of not starting at all, as it is now in my driveway its a 4 door with an automatic trans about 203k on the odo. i went and tinkered with it tonight and when trying to start it, it cranks nice and strong (until the battery died) and it seemed to start to catch and try to fire up and run on its own power but just never did, i pulled num 1 spark plug and you can smell fresh fuel on it and they look fairly new, also the distributor has a stamped date of 2007, making me wonder if it was replaced. i was wondering if anyone had any ideas of where i can start my diagnostics? after i charge the battery, that is. oh and the battery is practically new, its a 04/10 battery and is good and strong. also when you turn the key on, you can hear the fuel pump priming the system, i was wondering if this could be simply a very clogged filter or bad cap and rotor? any ideas would be greatly appreciated

first check for spark...if none probably a bad ignitor.

ok, i will when i get home, but the thing is that it tries to fire, like, it will sputter and almost catch but it wont kick over. is it possible its out of time, like the timing belt slipped or something

highly unlikely with a stock vlv train and cams.

start with the basics, spark, fuel, compression.

Check the gap or change the sparks plugs, if that fails next possible culprit would be the dizzy coil so check for spark.

Edit: before ur go out and buy plugs do as above stated and check the basics then if necessary proceed with the following above

Re: 1991 accord crank/no start issue

ok, well heres the update, after i charged and hooked up the battery again, i tried to start it and same thing, nothing, then i pulled out num 4coil wire and attached a spark tester and grounded to the exhaust manifold, had the g/f start it and it fired up and ran perfectly fine, even tho num4 wasnt hooked up, so she shut it off i hooked everything back up and it has run fine ever since, after i did that, it did die 3 times idling in the driveway, it would just die like u turned the key off, but ever since then its been running fine, so im thinking just do a tune up cap/rotor/wires and ngk copper plugs?
