Civic 99-00 DX hatchback - How remove license plate light covers to change the bulbs?
So I own a 2000 Honda civic DX Hatchback and I'm wanting to clean the reat license plate light covers and swap out the bulbs, but I can't get them to come off. Any help on how to remove it would be nice thanks!

I remembered removing the license plate lights on a '97 CX hatch, but those were just held in by two Phillips screws, so I figured you couldn't have overlooked that.
But I knew that in 1998 Honda added a lift handle to the rear, right above the license plate. So that could very well have changed the design of the license plate lights. So I checked on HondaPartsDeals.com for a pic and what do you know, there it is. Here's the little image I made from their pic to better explain. Attachment 540054 Looks like the '96-'97 hatches have license plate lights held in with two Phillips screws, but the '98-'00 hatches have some sort of clip in license plate light assembly. I'm not sure how hard they'll be to remove, but I'd imagine this means they can be pried out. |
Re: Need help! Civic 99-00 DX hatchback
I'm pretty sure when I did this to clean the lens on mine I just used a flat head screw driver and pried the side off. I believe it was held in by clips so just be careful and take your time.

There should be a tab that you will have to move to unhook it in order to pull it out. It breaks easily so be careful. I found that out the hard way. I need a new one.
