Horrible Clutch Shudder
Right, I put in a new clutch on my b20 when I did the swap. It's just a replacement clutch kit and I got th flywheel resurfaced. When the clutch is cold, it takes of smooth like butter, but after driving for a while after stop and starts when I take off in 1st, the whole car shakes, it's like I'm getting wheel hop. There isn't more than 6,000km's on it. Any ideas?

Re: Horrible Clutch Shudder
Is it grabbing off the floor? If it is bleed the system properly. If it isn't bleed the system properly. If you have air in the system when it gets hot it will expand and foul up the clutch system. An example would be the clutch grabbing off the floor and the car shuddering.

Re: Horrible Clutch Shudder
Nope. It's grabbing from the same spot whether it be cold or hot. Thanks for the reply though!

Re: Horrible Clutch Shudder
Try bleeding it. There isnt much else that would cause your problem aside from a very worn out clutch disc. Plus bleeding it is easy, cheap, and a good place to start when you have a clutch problem. Its kind of a standard catch all for clutch problems. And its pretty likely that you may have introduced air into your clutch system via the slave cylinder when your replaced the clutch. If you bleed it and still have the problem then you at least ruled something out that is cheap to check.

Re: Horrible Clutch Shudder
Awesome, thanks! I'll bleed it tomorrow and report back. :P

Re: Horrible Clutch Shudder
Bled the system, there was no air in it at all. Either I muffed up the break in period, or the clutch disk is just so crap that when it gets hot it just warps.

Re: Horrible Clutch Shudder
Figured I'd bump this because I know in a few months or years someone will have this same problem, search and find this thread.
Took off the pressure plate, and well, all the torsion springs on the clutch disk were loose and I mean really loose. |
Re: Horrible Clutch Shudder
What brand was it and where did you get it?

Pick up an Exedy OEM replacement clutch kit for around $130 or so. Been using mine for nearly 3 years and 20K miles now and no problems at all. |
