Front Engine Mount loose - Help please

Hi guys,

I have 6th gen V6 Accord Sedan and one of the front mounting bolts is loose. It's sticking out about 3/8" inch off the engine mount plate. I think this is what caused the knocking noise like metal to metal hitting/sliding when I turned left or right on un-even/sloping surface. it's not rattling or thumping though. Engine is dead quite during acceleration and hard braking. I thought I had problem with my sway bar end link till I found out about this loose bolt issue this morning. I bought the car used and it's got new engine on it. I guess whoever installed the new engine didn't do good job tightening all the bolts.

My questions are:

1. Since the loose bolt is not dead on straight, I really don't want to start wrenching it since this may break the bolt or cross thread it. I was planning to lift the engine slightly using floor jack to reliefe some pressure to the bolt but I'm not sure where would be the safest point to jack it.

2. Since the car has been in this condition for several weeks, should I loosen the rest of the engine mount bolts and re-torqued them evenly. I 'm afraid that if I just tighten that loose bolt, the engine might still be twisted.

3. Should I replace the bolt? I guess once I can pull it out, I should probably replace it with new one.

Anyone that has done this in the past and willing to share some DIY step by step?

This is my only transportation and I need to get it fixed so that I can drive safely.

Thanks again

Be careful you don't over complicate things. If the bolt turns, tighten it.

I've been doing this long enough to have learned that cars are pretty forgiving.

Why bolts is loose? A few days ago, I replaced the front and passenger side mounts. The bolts are very very tied.. Anyway $40-$50 DIY, I will list the tools I used, if you interest it:

Danny,

Could you list the tools please?

I'm very as far as working on the car. I do tend to overthink sometimes that's why I ask for suggestion.

Still though, do you lift the engine by the oil pan or transmission?

Thanks

1,2,3,4,5: 1/2 inch rachet, braker bar (14 inch long), extensions. Same as 6.7.8: 3/8 inch rachet, braker bar (10inch long), extensions. 12, 13, 14, 17 mm wrench sockets. 2 car lift stands, 2 floor jacks (because I have 2). Don't lift the engine, just support it, using a wooden block between oil pan and jack. I used other lift on transmission in the same manner (?)

2 14mm wrenches - Make them double length.

Since one of the bolts is slightly slanted, is it ok to relieve the engine weight presure by slightly lift engine by oil pan? I don't think I can just wrenching the bolt as I'm afraid of stripping the threads. I've heard about placing 2x4 between the jack and oil pan.
Thanks

Do NOT NOT NOT put a jack on the oil pan. You will crease that thing and kill it.

Put a wooden block as you had read between the jack and oil pan. It will take the tension off the bolt and you're good to go.

Yeah, basically put something in between the jack and the oil pan to spread out the pressure and avoid damaging the metal. As for where to lift it, it depends on whats closer. You wanna jack the motor close to the mount that you are working on. When I did my 4cyl front/tranny mounts I jacked under the transmission bellhousing cause it was close to the mounts.

Like they said, if the bolt will spin, tighten it to spec. Tighten the other ones but you don't need to loosen them first.

As long as you put that block of wood in there then yeah you should be fine.
