4000 rpm rev limiter?
I own a 2001 lx f23a1 and recently it has been giving me hell. It has no mods except for subs and amplifier. The car shifts at about 5200 rpm during initial driving but after it warms up it begins to hit the rev limiter at 4000 rpm then today it started to do the same at about 3000 rpm. Took it to the mechanic at the used car dealer who i am buying the car from and he swore it was a blown fuse. Then took it today and some wires had lost there plastic covering (200,000 mile car) and he proceeded to wrap them in electrical tape and said it was fixed. Of course it drove away fair but as soon as i got on a on ramp it proceeded to not shift beyond 4000 rpm. I really need help cuz if its gonna cost me a new ecu or high dollar part I want my money back havent even had the car for a week yet. Please help

Re: 4000 rpm rev limiter?
is there a CEL? Car could be in limp mode or the timing belt was changed and wasn't timed properly. There are a list of things it could be. I personally would bring it back and get my money back if its only a week old.

Re: 4000 rpm rev limiter?
Yes my cel is on but i got the codes checked and they are from o2 sensors

Re: 4000 rpm rev limiter?
The car could be in limp mode. Could be the cat is clogged, flowing too much or the o2 sensor is out.

Yup, your engine is in Limp Mode.

Re: 4000 rpm rev limiter?
there should be a o2 on the headers and on in the exhuast by the oil slump if im not mistaken

Re: 4000 rpm rev limiter?
yes o2 sensors one on top, and the other underneath the end of the headers...the cat u can unclog it by lifting the car, wear a dust mask, unbolt the cat shell, and get all of that mess out or u can buy a new one.

If they do that for a limp mode/o2 sensor fix, I'd hate to see their methods for dealing with a blown HG or something... probably try and Elmer's glue the head and block together... |
Re: 4000 rpm rev limiter?
Thank you so much for asking the question for me i have the same problem on an engine swap which had blown head and was pumping water out tail pipe so i guess it probably clogged after setting for six months b4 i swapped motor
