(94 Accord lx) Need Help on the Crank Pulley bolt removal
What's the safest way taking the crank pulley bolt out so I can line my timing marks? Someone told me sticking the pry bar holding the teeth of the flywheel, I don't know about that...lol

go to o'reilly or maybe auto zone and rent the tool that goes into the pulley. look at the FAQ section on how to use it.

If you've never taken off your crank pulley bolt it will be really hard to get it off I had to pay a shop $20 to get mine off. Are you changing your timing belt? I have a tip if you are.

I had the pulley out before when I had my water pump changed at the shop, now I jus changed the head gasket, intake gasket and exhaust gasket myself. I jus wanna make sure before I put the timing belt back on that the timing marks are correct and I probably get that pulley switch, sounds like a easy tool, may have to order cause autozone don't have it

If checking the timing mark is all youre after, Just check it on the flywheel. There is a rubber plug on the bellhousing. Pull the plug, look in there with a flashlight, rotate the crank until you see 3 red marks and one white mark. Line up the white mark on the pointer. Thats TDC.

I bought that tool from amazon. They have alot of parts too. How did you change the head gasket and get the timing belt off without removing the crank pulley bolt?
|
Re: (94 Accord lx) Need Help on the Crank Pulley bolt removal
I took the head out lol the timing belt of course is on the camshaft, HEY! Where's the bellhousing plug located?

Re: (94 Accord lx) Need Help on the Crank Pulley bolt removal
Dude did you change the head gasket witnout removing the lower timing cover? If so the belt is tight because have to loosen the tensioner.

Re: (94 Accord lx) Need Help on the Crank Pulley bolt removal
Aahh shit! Yea I did so now I have to take the crank pulley out so I can loosen the tensioner

Re: (94 Accord lx) Need Help on the Crank Pulley bolt removal
Holy crap your wild man. If you took off the timing cover you could of just used some paint to mark your pulleys and belt. You did it the hard way good luck bro. P.S. even with that tool you'll need breaker bars, extensions, a jack stand and 6 feet or more of hollow pipe for leverage. I didn't have pipe so I went to a shop.

Re: (94 Accord lx) Need Help on the Crank Pulley bolt removal
You don't need to pull the crank pulley bolt to loosen the tensioner. Just loosen the 14mm bolt, rotate the crank to #1 piston TDC, make sure the head is lined up with the "up" mark and the two slots on the camshaft gear, and install the belt.
I just finished changing my head gasket and I did it this way in no time at all. |

Re: (94 Accord lx) Need Help on the Crank Pulley bolt removal
How close does it come? With the tensioner bolt loose, you should be able to pull the belt up on one side of the pulley, get it just up on the other side, and then force it over the middle. Rotate the camshaft about 30 degrees to counter-clockwise (I think it's counter-clockwise) then tighten the tensioner bolt. You'll know it's the right direction because the belt will visually get tight.

Re: (94 Accord lx) Need Help on the Crank Pulley bolt removal
It comes real close, I can't get to the tensioner witout removing the bottom cover and the crank pulley is in the way, ima try get a impact tool today, but ima try doin that way too

Re: (94 Accord lx) Need Help on the Crank Pulley bolt removal
I don't get what you mean, the tensioner bolt sticks through the bottom cover....

Re: (94 Accord lx) Need Help on the Crank Pulley bolt removal
Just use an ingersoll rand with some balls and a high CFM high pressure air compressor.

Re: (94 Accord lx) Need Help on the Crank Pulley bolt removal
my pulley came totally loose. engine cranks fine and i was able to drive home. Can I fix this with tool? do I have to worry about timing?

Re: (94 Accord lx) Need Help on the Crank Pulley bolt removal
I hit it with a impact gun and it came right off.
