Temp Guage goes up when at a stop only.

The motor is a D18Y8 in a 98 civic ex coupe

As the title say's, I changed my thermostat a few weeks back because the car was overheating while driving. Everything went well. I'm just a little boggled as to why now whenever i stop at a stop light the temp gauge next to the gas gauge goes up slowly and within maybe 1-2 minutes it'll hit the H on the scale.

Anyone know if maybe it's a faulty Thermostat maybe or a bigger issue within the motor.

Like i mentioned, before i changed the thermostat and the heater core hose, it was over heating even while driving but now only at stop lights. While driving it sits perfectly normal.

Maybe this'll be enough description to come up with an idea of what the issue may be.

If you guys have any idea would you be kind enough to throw those ideas out.

THanks in advance my friends.

theres air in the system
i had same issue before

pop the top of the radiator and turn the heat on high.... it should bubble for a bit

give it a few minutes and then pop the cap back on.....then see if it does the same thing

Does the fan kick on when the temp starts to rise? If it does I would go with air bubbles, if it doesn't well then the answer is kind of obvious.

I had the same issue. My fan was working, and I had just done a coolant flush. The problem was my radiator. The core was old and bugs and rocks had eaten away at it. I replaced the radiator and BAM. Problem fixed.

Take a look at your core. See if it looks tired.

FYI, the thermostat is designed to fail OPEN, not closed. If your car is over heating while moving, it's probably not the thermostat.

try removing the thermastat and go drive around and check if the overheatin still happens...if not then either leave it out or buy a new one, that solved my problem
