Re: b20 vtec w/ GSR Head???

slightly faster than a stock itr even with the smaller gsr cams. these often have a short life though. one of my friends created one from a wrecked crv they had at his work. wound up running a 14.5@98mph

now on to the bad. the engine made it 3 oil changes before a rod broke

the b20 and b18b stock were never designed for 8,000+ rpm

yea deff install a block guard!!! b20s have mean cylinder walk after 5k, also if you could get your hands on a 01 b20z2 or the jdm 01 b20b they are the best ones to get. the b20b has the highest compression for b20s

I've had this setup before. But only took it to 7800rpm. Lasted awhile but got annoyed of the Frankenstein DD. Gotta love the torque though

hmm that's a thought if you redlined the engine at 7000 the b20 would probably live awhile and you would have a fairly quick car. even if you're down 10-15hp compared to 8000 engine life is drastically increased.

Yeah, it wasnt bad but again I like to rev high so had to switch back to a mild built gsr. I honestly should have built the b20 and go all out. LOL

block guards are ugly creatures... Essentially you're fixing the top portion of the cylinder from expanding so the middle part of the cylinder actually flexes more and can cause damage... I'm not sure about the cylinder walk issue, but I can imagine it does because of the longer stroke.

On that note, because of the longer stroke, the rods swing side to side further than a short stroke engine... So at least get some beasty rod bolts if you're going to do it...

Um isn't the block guard to stop cylinder walk??

And y wouldn't u just use 2 one at the top and on in the middle?

Re: b20 vtec w/ GSR Head???

block guards help to prevent blown head gaskets from cylinder walk. they are what they are. as always if you want to make a high spinning motor or a lot of whp boosted you go sleeved or dart

Re: b20 vtec w/ GSR Head???

i have b20 vtec with gsr head dont need a block guard waste of time and money doesnt do anything if your sleeves are gonna crack a block guard wont help.

look into upgrading your rod and rod bolts. either shotpeen or get some forged.

im running stock just upgraded rod bolts and i take it up to 8k all day. now i dont leave it at 8 too long and i take care of my motor. if your stuff is built right and you checked and double checked your motor should be good.

have faith in your setup and know your limits you should be okay. b20 is good but if you can go lsvtec
