obd2 help! jdm f22b sohc vtec swap into 96 accord lx auto
 

Hello..ok i bought a jdm f22b sohc vtec to replace with my f22b2 in my 96 accord lx auto...i was told that i had to change out the oil pumps because of the crank postion sensor in the 96 n up accords, so i had the pumps changed, i also bought the correct ecu that i have to use, but im havin trouble finding out what distributor to use. I bought a 96 accord ex distributor but the plug dont match the engine harness out of my old motor because it has an external coil and the one i bought has an internal coil...so my question is do i need an accord ex engine harness? Is there anything else im missing to complete this engine swap? I want to keep everything obd2

some stuff dont sound correct....i'm assuming youre car is a 96 which is OBD-2 already. the f22B2 which is non VTEC, is available in both obd 1 and 2, possibly even obd 0 too (i dont know off hand) so if you bought a pre 96 engine, you would have to change the oil pump to be OBD-2. which you did. your coil and distributor should bolt up and connect to your harness. you bought a 96 ex accord distributor....but you have an lx car? i show an external coil on the 96 accord (sedan) but i'm sure its all the same. sounds like you got the wrong distributor. perhaps just giving us the VIN will help. although we dont need the serial number (the last 6 numbers). and you changed your motor because......why? blown, cracked,... just bored?

The best thing to do is use the stock wiring harness and distributor. Fit it to the JDM engine. Then graft the VTEC sol wire end VTEC oil pressure switch wire to the original harness. Keep it simple.

Does the OBD2 USDM F22B2 Non VTEC distributor fit and work on the JDM F22B VTEC head? I was under the assumption that it wasn't that easy.

since you brought it up here...maybe you can help me understand the usdm and jdm issue. i've been re building and working on cars for like 12 years now but i have never had an issue...what is the difference between a usdm head and a jdm head? both being the f22b2 which is the non vtec 16-valve. the f22b1 is the vtec engine.

i solved the issue...i knew the jdm f22b sohc vtec engine was obd1..therefore i had to change out the oil pump and its components to convert it into obd2...the distributor that came off the jdm motor is internal coil and my lx is external...the distributor off my 96 accord lx doesnt work with my jdm f22b vtec head they are different..all i have to do is buy a 96 accord ex engine harness but i still would have to wire up the vtec to my ecu which is simple to do and i have bought the correct ecu to run this setup

so if you want vtec why noy get the f22b1. thats vtec and the f22b2 (yours) is non vtec. right ? or wrong? good luck bro. hope it works. i just wanted to know if my database is wrong. i use alldata

ok ima chime in here quik i kno u figured it out but im i
about to do a similar swap jus without vtec! first off ima clear up the engine code stuff quik he purchased a f22b a f22b is a japanese engine and does not have a 5th # like the usdm motors yes in america f22b1 is vtec and f22b2,a1,a2,a3,a4,a5 and so on are non v! now in japan the have a f22b single cam non v,a f22b single cam vtec and a f22b dohc non v! Sooo i have a 96lx (non v) usdm shell just like he does im tired of knic knackin around with higher mileage motors and parts so i wana buy a jdm motor,im not doing it to build a race car or even make it faster i could care less i jus want a reliable motor with no wiring or computer issues so therefore im gona stick with the f22b non vtec motor,the problem im thinkin is similar to the one you had minus vtec issue! i noticed the jdm engine uses an internal coil and my car and harness has a external so i figured i would use my harness,my dizzy and my coil now i was wondering if my dizzy will fit in the jdm head beacuae i will be using a non v head or if i will run into the same problem he did with it not fitting or was that just because it was a vtec head? secondly the crank pos sens issue<the jdm motor has no crank pos sensor on the block so i figured i could just bolt mine to the block and plug it up!does the jdm block have the blot holes and slots to put in crank pos sensor or will i have to change oil pump like he did? i kno there is a difference between vtec and non v and thats prob why he changed it but was jus wondering if i would have to do that too any help would be great im lookin into doing this swap soon but dont wana buy a engine for low miles and run into problems...

finally someone who knows the difference between jdm and usdm . holy. everyone thinks that a f22b is a b1 or b2# and that they are all dohc vtecs. but like the sohc are so rare . theres one in my accord, and it looks like a direct bolt up into the bay. although im thinking my f22b soch came from 92 prelude si, or 5th gen prelude s/si or s coupe.
