get your vin number and go to your local dealer and get a key made cheaper than a lock smith

OR, get a wire hanger and squeeze it through the top of the door through the seals. Make a hook or L shape at the end that you squeeze through. Now try to hook your lock button with that end. It takes time and a lot of effort to get it. You can try to open the lock or pull the door handle.

It does work though, I have done it at least 5 times with my Del Sol lol.

It was disturbing how easy it was to get into my car when I locked myself out.

Re: locked keys inside, help!

man i hated doing this at the dealer LOL. i would pull into my bay and get out while being careful not to hit the lift with the door, and i would shut the door and realize the doors locked!! LOL so there i am giving the car back with an extra key LOL. now 10 years later i have a habit of rolling down the window before i get out of a car to work on it LOL

The first thing I do when getting into a customer's car is roll the window down.

I don't get it - how can you get out of your car and have the door locked when you close it? You have to unlock the door to get out. Are you locking it again before you shut it?

My alarm also locks my doors 3 seconds after starting the car, and unlocks them when I shut the car off. I ALWAYS drive with the doors locked, so it's very convenient for me. But my alarm is also smart enough to know when one door is open when the car is started, it won't lock the doors. If I have to get out while the engine is running, I unlock the door, and then lock it again when I get back in. It certainly does not lock itself after I unlock it.

On my 96 GSR if you have the key in the ignition and unlock the door from the inside while the door is open, it automatically locks both doors after a second. I assume his situation was similar.

wow what a retarded design.

On my 94, if I hold the door plunger closed on the door jamb so that the car thinks the door is closed, then start my car and the alarm tries to lock the doors (door still open) it will try to lock but then immediately unlock.

EXACTLY! I've kept a spare car key in my wallet since I got my first car in 1996. Parents suggested I do so, and I listened. :)

Only time it was a fail was when I was a freshman in college, living in the dorms. One Saturday morning I went out to piddle around with the car, ended up locking my keys in my car, with wallet locked in my dorm room. :o Luckily I lived on the ground floor and could open the window from outside and just barely squeeze through.

not all alarms work like that for instance when i turn o the igntion it will lock the doors after i start driven, but if i turn the ignition engine off but kep acc on it wil lock the doors after sometime even if the key is in the igniton, bt if i turn the car off completeit will lock the doors after 5 secs when bot doors are closed so the best way is to kee a spare keep cause these arlarms are designed to lock ppl out including u

Haha I think we've all locked ourselves out of our cars before. So when it happened to me luckily I was in my garage but the dumb thing was I didnt have a spare key. I know stupid me. So I had to use a hanger, slid it through my window and pushed down on the unlock switch. Luckily there was no damage.

Re: locked keys inside, help!

which is the reason i will NEVER drive a later model gm, or most fords, if i want the doors locked then ill lock them myself. i always roll down the window of any car im working on.

ive also kept a spare key to my car in my wallet for the past few years.

Re: locked keys inside, help!

the worst was in my lexus, i locked the key in the trunk with no spare and the doors locked, locksmith came and opened the door, which set the alarm off, causing all levels to automatically lock so i couldnt get to the trunk, had to have ANOTHER person come to remove the door panel and trip the door in order to unlock the trunk lol
