Easiest way to replace the head gasket on d15b?

So i just bought a 1995 civic with a d15b and the head gasket is blown(leaves a white cloud behind the car) and i am just wanting to know if somebody has a write up on the easiest way to do it. If not ill just figure it out by myself.

Thanks in advance.

Best advice is to get a workshop manual and use that for the job, don't forget to check the head is within specs before you refit it or get it skimmed to be on the safe side.
Good luck.

Re: Easiest way to replace the head gasket on d15b?

easiest way to do a head gasket huh. Well unbolt the exhaust manifold and, intake manifold, remove valve cover and top timing belt cover. Set timing to top dead center on No.1 cylinder, line up the crank and cam, take the motor mount off then, take the timing belt off the cam gear, might be a good time to do your timing belt too. you don't have to loosen the valve adjusting bolts since the head bolts aren't under the cam like on B-series. Make sure you loosen the bolts head bolt in sequence or else you're going to warp the head, you need to find a manual or search online to find loosen sequence. That should pretty much be it. pm me if you need more info.

Ok thanks man. Im also taking the head to my shop to get it milled and have an over all look through. Also going to change the water pump and the timing is brand new(at least that is what i was told)if not im buying a new one. Also i replaced the radiator, plugs and spark plug wires. Hopefully it doesnt smoke any more.

BLOWN HEAD GASKET
tear down and rebuild
(order/buy a complete top end gasket set)
NOT from JIS ENGINES
905 Arlington TX 76010

step1
park car on ramps. and jack up rear and put on jack stands
make it level or tilted slightly to front

step2
remove hood or plan on hitting it many times with your head!

step3
drain oil and antifreeze.

step4
unbolt manifold you will need penetrating oil WD40 and a breaker bar!
you make destroy some bolts try not to but keep peaces for local hardware store.
be very careful with the engine studs!!!! they brake really easy lots of penetrating oil

step5
remove intake.... take a picture of were all hoses ect. go this will help later!
don't forget the brace that holds intake to motor.
take manifold and intake set aside in safe place...
i used like 100g Rubbermaid container with old towels in bottom

step6
unplug all sensors the go to head again take picture and be careful wires maybe rotted and brake easily... lots of pictures better to have 50 unused pictures then 1 picture u need and don't have

step7
remove the valve cover....
4 nuts easy cheesy
set it in safe place!

step8
remove all 10 head bolts!
place in 2 litter bottle
then inside safe place

step9
remove all water hoses
put them in safe place
don't forget pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!

step10
remove upper timing belt cover and timing belt
like 3 bolts
timing belt should be able to slip off by hand mine was.
also mine was replaced 2 week b4 might want to invest in water pump/timing belt

step11
OK now the back braking part!
remove the head from the engine
easier said then done
i took long metal bar and chain to do it.
hook chain to head studs
slide metal bar/prying tool in chain
set pry tool on safe spot in engine bay and pry up
if this didn't work invest in cherry picker to pry it up or a 2nd set of hands

step12
lay out of work cause u tweaked a back muscle working on car!

the real step 12
peal/scrap gasket of head and engine!

step13
peel/scrap gasket residue of intake/manifold

*note this is a good time to preform your own port and polish if u know what your doing!*

step14
take head to machine shop to have it check
20-50$ should be most u pay unless its bad head!

step 15
wait 7 days for

JIS Engine, LP
95 East Abram St.
Arlington, TX 76010

to send you wrong parts!!!!
the call and have them send you the right parts
but no they wont fix there mistake and over night the parts
these people are shit to deal with i discourage any deals with them.

i will make my own thread and add pictures and what not later in 12days
and ill fix my mistakes ect please don't flame on me
