Brake line replacement - 94 Accord

Hello,

My 94 Accord needs the brake line replaced. I believe the leak is over the gas tank. Car is still sitting at home as it needs a tow to the mechanic. Any ideas on cost of replacing before I take it in? Are brake lines replaced in "pieces" or are all lines replaced. I spoke to mechanic over the phone and he advised $300-$700 depending on tank being dropped etc.

Thanks for any advice offered.

the brake lines can be replaced in "pieces" but the rear brake lines are long pieces....

I dont recall the routing of the rear brake line enough to remember if they do run over the gas tank or not.

I am now thinking that I work way too cheap.
Bad part of line can be cut out and replaced.

Check the flexable fitting. I have seen these pushed up over the top lip of the tank and when they start leaking, its hard to see exactly where the leak is coming from as you can't get up far enough to see anything.

Replacing the flexable fitting should take just a few minutes. Try pulling on it to see it will move, if it does move it away from the tank. Then see if the leak is still coming from the top of the tank. If indead it has been moved that much, one of the hard lines probably got kinked. I have seen this happen with an Accord that was being used as a dune buggy and a piece of wood shoved it up, pulled the anchor bolt out and it and the kinked line were replaced for about a $100.00, which included lowering the tank.

Regardless, try another shop.

Thanks for the replies guys. I took a look at that picture on Majestic Honda site. Looks like parts are pretty decently priced, but labour might add up.

based on that diagram it definitely doesn't look like the lines could be routed over the tank. i would take whltng's advice and try to make sure that you know where it is coming from.

hey im having the same issue now with my accord. the line that goes next to the tank shown as #4 in the diagram where i marked in red there is a tiny hole.i was wondering does the subframe or tank have to come off to get to the line?

i would suggest a 3ft section of 3/16 brake line that has one end with a 10mm fitting and use an compression union on the other end to connect it to the rest of the brake line'

went for an inspection today and you guess it, leaking brake line from the same location . I would tackle this job BUT it's too cold outside, I was quotes about a 100 bucks for everything, we will see how this turns out.
