broken easy out....how do i remove it
So I was at the shop today getting ready to take my head apart completely apart and clean it entirely before re-assembling it. As I started taking off the water flange and some of the oil galley allen bolts, I broke off an easy out piece that I was using on the allen bolt that sits between cyl's 2 and 3. FACK! How do I remove it?! Its sitting flush with the bolt as well which REALLY sucks. The head is a 96 spec gsr so most of you can get an idea of what I'm talking about

Re: broken easy out....how do i remove it
i was at the machine shop when it happened! i gotta take it to this one place that has industrial drilling machines and either use one of their machines or HOPe they have an edm machine
|
Re: broken easy out....how do i remove it
whats an edm machine?
How about putting it up in a jig so its really stable and using a left handed drill bit in a drill press? I know that tool steel is super hard but they gotta have some kind of drill bits that are harder, right? I assume you work at a machine shop, the other guys dont have any suggestions? |

Re: broken easy out....how do i remove it
Found a shop, cost me 81 bucks for their time to get the broken piece out :/
Another question, I told them to leave the old allen bolt in(saved me mulah) and I would just drill it out and retap myself, do they make oversized allen bolts and is it logical to go over sized even tho I still need to drill out? |
Re: broken easy out....how do i remove it
Wow that EDM machine is pretty crazy!. Ive never even heard of that before.
So did the machine shop use an EDM machine to fix your head? 81 bucks isnt too bad. Its alot cheaper than a head! I would only step it up if the threads are damaged, but thats just me. No sense in fixing something if its not broken. Im sure they make allen bolts in any size you need. I think theyre NPT plugs arent they? |
