Temp gauge not working...
Did a search with limited results...
my '95 Civic Dx temp gauge does not work and the local parts houses cant tell me which sensor I may need to replace... the water temp sensor or air temp? any help would be much appreciated ~ TIA |
Re: Temp gauge not working...
Look on the cylinder head under the Distributor, you will see a sensor going into the head, its a 1-wire. This sensor gives feedback to the temp gauge on your gauge cluster. I have seen the connectors break off the sensor where it hooks on.

Re: Temp gauge not working...
Thanks Matt, will look at that and see!

I'm heading your way tomorrow to look at some wheels/tires, will be glad to buy you lunch for the help!! Thanks again ~ |
Re: Temp gauge not working...
Nah you ain't gotta do that man, just glad I could help. Where you buying wheels/tires from?

Re: Temp gauge not working...
Ad I found online for some Drag DR 23's, just says Concord...gonna get an address shortly and head that way in the morning.

Most of us like pictures. |
Re: Temp gauge not working...
in my experience that temp sender under the distro can become cooked and brittle from the motor heating up over time and break off quite easily.
|
Re: Temp gauge not working...
already replaced the temp sending unit...did not fix problem
|
Re: Temp gauge not working...
hows your heat? is it warm but not as warm as it should be? how cold is where you are?
im asking the condition of the t stat. |
Re: Temp gauge not working...
Also check the coolant level in both the radiator and reservoir.
|
Re: Temp gauge not working...
Coolant level is good in both...looks like the gauge so I'm looking now for a new cluster, maybe one with tach.
thanks for the suggestions! |
Re: Temp gauge not working...
Ok...
replaced my cluster with another from an LX and still have the same "no temp gauge" issue... I have checked the #15 - 10 amp fuse, replaced the sending unit and now the cluster with the same result...actually looks like the temp needle drops when the key is on. any more ideas? TIA |
Re: Temp gauge not working...
Did you ever do any of the tests in the posted diagram. Guessing solutions at random can get very expensive.
|
Re: Temp gauge not working...
I did the testing, thats why I replaced the sending unit first...when that didn't work I replaced the cluster (wanted a tach anyway)

Re: Temp gauge not working...
grounding the sending unit wire resulted in no movement of the gauge when ignition switched on
impedence reading of unit itself was off a little but no it didn't indicate as being bad but I replaced it anyway... I visually inspected the wire as far as possible without tearing into the harness and didn't see any break |

Very good, but I think you mean resistance here. grounding the sending unit wire resulted in no movement of the gauge when ignition switched on Very good. I visually inspected the wire as far as possible without tearing into the harness and didn't see any break Here's where you went wrong and didn't follow the instructions in the diagram. You usually can't tell visually whether a wire is bad. You need to use your multimeter to test for lack of continuity between the ends at the sending unit and cluster. |
Re: Temp gauge not working...
I have the same problem with my temp gauge, cantseem to figure mine out either
|
Re: Temp gauge not working...
Make new thread with more details.
|
Re: Temp gauge not working...
Got it working, turned out to be a bad connector on the wire that plugs into the sensor
