Steering wheel shake when stepping on the brake???

Oh okay guys, the problem Im having with my 4th gen lude is that whenever I step on the brake my steering wheel shake dramatically. So I decided to replaced my two front rotors with the new one and also new brake pads as well and I still have the same problem when stepping on the brake????? Oh forgot to mention but I have also replaced the driver side axle as well although I haven't replace the passenger side axle.........Anyone have any suggestion or advice to solving this problem????? I would appreciate it.....thanks....

Re: Steering wheel shake when stepping on the brake???

pull the rotors back off and have them machined... sometimes (especially shitty china parts) come warped right out of the box.

Re: Steering wheel shake when stepping on the brake???

Is that the only time it shakes? Does it ever shake while you drive on the highway?
If not then oneludesol is probably right and you got gayed

Tires perhaps. Pull them off and roll them. See if they don't roll striaght. Cheap way to single out and often issue with shaking/vibration in steering.

In responding to Sup3rd....Yes when Im driving on the highway going 70mph the steering wheel does shake but not dramatically and the steering wheel really vibrate (but you can feel and see that the steering wheel does shake back and forth).......In responding to Mattnooz....I have not try rolling the tires yet....or swapping the tires from back to front or front to back yet.....I will try it as soon as we get some sun light.....it start raining today and for tomorrow as well so as soon as there a break in sun light I try to roll the tire to see if they roll straight or not......

x2 on the tires.
could be out of balance or irregularly worn.

Okay cool, that's another problem I thought you'd might have. When was the last time you bought new tires or balanced them? It's not your rotors because your problem is already there without you having to step on the brakes. It seems that your wheels are improperly balanced.

Re: Steering wheel shake when stepping on the brake???

If you changed the rotors and pad and it is still shaking bad, you need new wheel bearings. Make sure if you do them your self to use the proper method to press them in or just let some one that has the proper equipment to do it.

Re: Steering wheel shake when stepping on the brake???

In responding to Sup3rd again, I haven't bought new tires in a while now.....I usually buy used tires that are in "like new condition" from a tire shop call "Used Quality Tires" here in town and during that time when I bought the tires they also balanced both of the front tires as well......So do you guys think maybe my tires are wearing unevenlly that why it causing the shaking problem or vibration on the steering wheel...???? And do I need to wheel balance my tires again....????? In responding to Jshaw23, I have replaced my two front wheel bearings last summer already.....do these wheel bearings need to be replace every year....????? J/W.......Thanks you guys so far for the information, advice and sugesstion......Im taking all these information into consideration.......

Yes, I will sure let all you guys know when I figure it out what was the cause........

Re: Steering wheel shake when stepping on the brake???

u should check the wheel bearing by gripping the top and bottom of the tires and pull bottom while pushing top and vice versa to c if its sloppy...then take the sides of the tire and do the same to check tie rod ends...i no that my civic has a really bad inner pass rod and it shakes quite a bit.

Re: Steering wheel shake when stepping on the brake???

Well I didnt read everyones post but Im going to post this anyway.

This happens with my trucks at work, not on the prelude(mabey its the case) but the ball joints and all the rubber joints that connect the front suspension together become weakened over time.

When you apply pressure to the brake pedal it cause the steering wheel to shake, as well as the truck.

That is something to check into as well. But it only happens when you step on the brake.

Re: Steering wheel shake when stepping on the brake???

I changed both of my front wheel bearing last summer. I don't know how often do you change these wheel bearing???? J/W.....I also change my inner and outer tie rod ends maybe two year ago as well.......I remembered the last time I changed my motor oil. I have check to see if there any fault play in the wheel bearing by holding the top and bottom tire by pushing and pulling back and forth....but there wasn't any fault play as far as I know......I haven't check the side of the tire to see if there any fault play in my tie rod ends yet....Thanks

Re: Steering wheel shake when stepping on the brake???

pull the rotors off and make sure theres a clean surface(no rust) behind the rotor. It could cause the rotor not to sit flush and seem as if the rotors are still warped. Try removing the wheels and spin the motor up a little and watch the rotors for movement.

Re: Steering wheel shake when stepping on the brake???

Oh okay guys update....On friday I went and have my wheel balance done.....the shop say my tires are still running pretty straight....after having my wheel balance it seem like the steering wheel vibration went away....but I still got the problem of whenever I put press on my brake my steering wheel still shake dramatically.....now I don't really know what is the problem that is causing this issue......like I mention early I have replaced my front rotor and new brake pads.........already.......any advices or suggestions for this problem......??????????????

Re: Steering wheel shake when stepping on the brake???

check the rear brakes.. the rear need replaced more often then the front

Re: Steering wheel shake when stepping on the brake???

There's certain thickness on those rotors. It may be due to the rotor being too thin so thats why it can't withstand heat which results a warp rotor. You'll need to get it measured out to see if its machine-able; otherwise, just get new rotors.

I don't think so, because more stopping powers are at the front resulting front end dip. The proportioning valve only allows a small certain amount of percentage to the rear calipers.

still being if he didnt replace back they are still old and not good so it still will make that a difference

True. I'd go ahead and do all four new rotors and pads.
