Starter motor spins but doesnt engage.
Hello,
I just cant wrap my head around this. I installed my d15 minime which came out of my EF in my EG. And also installed a hydro gearbox which came of a japanese d15z1 vtec. Now i have it all bolted into the car. And when the great moment of cranking it came it didnt do anything. The starter motor spins. The solenoid clicks and the gear pops forward (tested this outside the car with a spare battery) It has good ground on the engine. when i turn the key only the starter motor spins. Also when i put a screwdriver between the solenoid and the plus on the s/motor it only spins. I have had the same problem with 2 other s/motors. And now im stuck.. Help ! :thud: whats wrong here the gearbox ? d series is d series right ? D serie flywheel is always the same diameter and offset right ? Come on d series guru's ^^ |

Are teeth damaged on the flywheel?

Re: Starter motor spins but doesnt engage.
No seem to be in good condition as far as i can see no reason why it shouldnt go round.
Im going to take of the gearbox and see if the flywheel which came with the block and box fits and if i have a fitting clutch for it. If anyone has ideas as to why it doesnt engage please speak freely |
Re: Starter motor spins but doesnt engage.
Have you tried a different starter? Its possible the gear is spinning but the plunger won't push it out. It might be a long shot but could be possible. Probably better off trying that before pulling the trans.

which all operate fine outside of the tranny but inside they dont grab on to the flywheel I think an offset issue so going to compare the flywheel i guess since d trannys are d trannys |

Re: Starter motor spins but doesnt engage.
okey so you know that ur getting power to the starter cus it spins right!
and you know the the plunger also works when u tested outside the car right!? the two things that i cant think of are 1- is that the starter gear doesnt reach the flywheel, you gotta make sure that all the modifications u did were acurrectly measured. dont just guess on it and skip this part because alot of ppl do that. 2- check all the wiring going to the starter from the vehicle. Burned wire will cause major resistence in any connection check the solenoid's wiring. if all fails, have someone crank the engine while u hit the stater(at the same time) with something non-conductive. this will let u know if the plunger is not working, but according to you, it does right? |

It fitted the d series tranny but had a much shorter nose protruding from the gear. It fits and does the job. Thx guys  |
