Re: Pre polished weld "L"s....
IF polished elbows are available why would you want to sand and buff them your self?
|

Re: Pre polished weld "L"s....
In for a source here. While I definitely am not willing to polish any, I did think of doing another manifold for my own car and I'd be willing to spend a little more to get a nice finished product.
Even if I could get some weld els that are worked in a tumbler to pretty them up. Wasn't AFI or someone doing that before finishing...maybe it was lovefab? |

Re: Pre polished weld "L"s....
i just purchased a tumbler from eastwood, put in some sched 10 90's in there overnight and they barely changed at all. tried several different media types and no luck. looks like i'll be returning the tumbler unless psi2hi can share what kinda media he uses etc.

Re: Pre polished weld "L"s....
what soap do you use?
if you could PM me to the links of that stuff i'd appreciate it. |
Re: Pre polished weld "L"s....
We can provide #4 finish (180 grit) straight lengths of pipe as well as tees, el's and 45's...however, they will be quite pricey compared to the standard mill finish fittings and pipe we stock. If there are enough people interested I'm sure we can get the price down a bit.
If anyone is interested let me know. |
Re: Pre polished weld "L"s....
Personally, it wasn't something I wanted to do in terms of multiple pieces, just for my own personal project. Would be a nice option to have to really make something nice.

Not Hardly....not as much about being lazy as being more efficient.. I have a full time (60 hr /week) job and try to knock out 2 or 3 manifolds a week for a local speed shop that sells them mail order.. I will usually spend between 4/5 hours polishing the runners and collector on each manifold...with the 10/15 hours a week I spend just polishing ,I could get more manifolds finished if pre polished L's were available......
If you work 60 hours, and spend 4-5 hours polishing each manifold thens surely each manifold most take you 15 hours plus making a manifold, (5 to cut, 5 to weld) thats 105 hours working in a 168 hour week. Personally I spend less time polishing than I do cutting/welding. What polishing method do you use? |
Re: Pre polished weld "L"s....
you need a vacation.

Re: Pre polished weld "L"s....
do u guys polish the pieces before u even start mocking them so u can just put them on a wheel? or do u tack everything up then takeapart then polish ? or what process exactly is the best u found.
|
Re: Pre polished weld "L"s....
i polish and bevel every piece prior to tacking it up. but i spend a good amount of time holding bends in place/cutting to fit.
