Help..What does the VIN mean?

Yes I know what VIN stands for, I just am interested in what each digit represents. My VIN is 2HGFG21557H######
This is what I have so far:
2=Country=Canada
H=Manufacturer=Honda
G=Vehicle Type=Passenger Car
F=Model=Civic
G=Body Style=2 Door Coupe
2=Trim=Si
1=?
5=?
5=Check Digit
7=Model Year=2007
H=Assembly Plant=Alliston, Ontario, Canada
and digits 12-17 is the cars # off the production line.

I know FG2 is the chassis code. I know FG1 is the non-Si Civic coupes, so I'm thinking my interpretation is correct. But I am looking to find out the info like I listed above. If anybody can refer me to a website that would be awesome.

Thanks!!

Re: Help..What does the VIN mean?

The first character vehicle identification number (VIN) serial number identifies the country from which the vehicle was manufactured.

First vehicle identification number digit: U.S.A.(1 or 4), Canada (2), Mexico (3), Japan (J), Korea (K), England (S), Germany (W), Italy (Z)

Second vehicle identification number digit specifies the manufacturer. Audi (A), BMW (B), Buick (4), Cadillac (6), Chevrolet (1), Chrysler (C), Dodge (B), Ford (F), GM Canada (7), General Motors (G), Honda (H), Jaguar (A), Lincoln (L), Mercedes Benz (D), Mercury (M), Nissan (N), Oldsmobile (3), Pontiac (2 or 5), Plymouth (P), Saturn (8), Toyota (T), Volvo (V).

Third vehicle identification number digit indicates the vehicle type or manufacturing division.

Fourth through eighth vehicle identification number digit reveals the vehicle features such as body style, engine type, model, series, etc.

The ninth vehicle identification number digit is a VIN accuracy check digit, verifying the previous VIN numbers. This is how the check digit works

Tenth vehicle identification number digit tells the model year. 1988 (J), 1989 (K), 1990 (L), 1991 (M), 1992 (N), 1993 (P), 1994 (R), 1995 (S), 1996 (T), 199 7(V), 1998 (W), 1999 (X), 2000 (Y)------2001(1), 2002 (2), 2003 (3)

Eleventh vehicle identification number digit reveals the assembly plant for the vehicle.

The twelfth to seventeenth vehicle identification number digits indicate the sequence of the vehicle for production as it rolled of the manufacturers assembly line.

Re: Help..What does the VIN mean?

Yes I understand all that. But like for the 4th-8th, which actually I just need the 7th and 8th now, what exactly do those digits represent? not just a general description.

Re: Help..What does the VIN mean?

From '06-'07 Service Manual. '08 should be the same as '07.

7th digit is Body Type and Transmission Type:

'06-'07 2-dr Model
------------------
1 = 2-dr Coupe/5-spd Manual/6-spd Manual
2 = 2-dr Coupe/5-spd Automatic

'06 4-dr Model
------------------
5 = 4-dr Sedan/5-spd Manual
6 = 4-dr Sedan/5-spd Automatic

'07 4-dr Model
------------------
5 = 4-dr Sedan/5-spd Manual/6-spd Manaul
6 = 4-dr Sedan/5-spd Automatic

8th digit is Vehicle Grade (Series)

'06-'07 2-dr Model
------------------
USA Models
2 = DX
5 = Si
6 = LX
8 = EX

CANADA Models
2 = DX
3 = DX-G
5 = Si
6 = LX
8 = EX

'06 4-dr Model
------------------
USA Models
2 = DX
3 = DX w/ Manual AC
5 = LX
8 = EX

CANADA Models
2 = DX
3 = DX-G
4 = LX (produced in USA)
5 = LX (produced in Canada)
8 = EX

'07 4-dr Model
------------------
USA Models
2 = DX
3 = DX w/ Manual AC
5 = LX, Si
8 = EX

CANADA Models
2 = DX
3 = DX-G
5 = LX
8 = EX

Re: Help..What does the VIN mean?

If this is the case then why would they have the body style and trim/model twice in the VIN? Unless I was wrong with the FG2..but I doubt it

Re: Help..What does the VIN mean?

If it was "FG1" of "FA1", how would you know what transmission and trim level it is??

And I don't think "F" means a Civic, as the Acura CSX has a chassis code of FD5, even though it's only sold in Canada.

so what does 'F' mean?

Current generation. The previous civics were designated E:e,f,g,h,j,k etc. It would make sense to progress to the next letter for the next civic I guess.

Re: Help..What does the VIN mean?

lol I'm surprised it took so long for someone to ask..I'm going to WyoTech and one of our worksheets we have to do is to fill out a sheet with what every digit in your VIN means..it's worth like an extra 3% for my shop grade so I figured why the hell not..the books they have for Hondas stop at 2000, so I had to figure this out some other way..

I used the 2006 VIN info, but it should still be correct.

2HG = MANUFACTURE & TYPE OF VEHICLE - Honda of Canada Mfg., Inc., Passenger Vehicle
FG2 = MODEL LINE & ENGINE TYPE = Civic 2-Dr. Si., K20Z3
1 = BODY & TRANSMISSION TYPE = 2-Dr. Coupe, M/T
5 = EQUIPMENT TRIM LEVEL = (could be several things, but with the previous criteria means...) Si, Si w/Navi
5 = CHECK DIGIT
7 = YEAR = 2007
H = PLANT = Alliston, Ontario (Canada)
###### = SEQUENCE PRODUCTION NUMBER

get that corrected your insurance is based of the vin if the registration is wrong and your insurance comp used that vin number to write the policy you will be paying less per month in premium but might run into a problem if you have to file a claim. They might clam that you dont have an si and might not payout if the car is totaled or stolen and stripped
