Have code - Won't work!

2003 TL with new battery and it won't accept the code. Constantly get an ERR code. Did the 1 + 6 button to confirm serial # and it is correct. This was a warranty replacement unit, but it worked perfectly and the serial number is good. SER# BC001856 (viewable as 30001856) CODE# 16353
Original unit was SER#30061659 CODE# 23424 ACS still has this info and suggests the possibility of CODE# 21646 I have the two identical cards given to me with the new unit and all numbers check, but they just won't work. Any help? Thank you.

Re: Have code - Won't work!

if the radio is reading "error" you have to reset the power to the radio so that it says "code". simply pull the "radio or backup" fuse from under your hood for about 5 minutes. this will allow you to attempt the radio code again.

Re: Have code - Won't work!

The radio only read "ERR" after it read "CODE" and I had entered the code #, as though the code was wrong or had been entered incorrectly. I actually pulled the batt terminal as it was easier. If it would be better to pull the fuse I will do this instead. Any other ideas? Thank you.

Re: Have code - Won't work!

It's either going to be 16353 OR 51621... if neither of those work try calling this number during regular business hours. 1-800-382-2238

MUGEN88CRX,
Thank you for the help. 16353 is on my card, but not the other. I will try it shortly and report.

Re: Have code - Won't work!

I tried both numbers, going so far as to pull the fuse between attempts so as to reset the unit, but to no avail. All I get is an "ERR" message after I enter the 5 digits. Is there some sort of special procedure for entering the code? I can hear the unit loading/calibrating itself when first turned on, so it is functioning, it just won't work. Any thoughts?

Re: Have code - Won't work!

Just spoke to ACS and the rep stated that it appears when the unit first booted up after the battery replacement, the chip "read" a frequency that isn't actually there. I may have not interpreted that correctly, but the fix is to take it underground or to a spot where there is no radio reception so that it will accept the code, or to disconnect the antenna. It's not a guarantee, but these are the two "fixes" as far as ACURA is concerned. It's a problem that they're aware of, but there is no factory fix. Not sounding good. Any other ideas as I'm not sure of where to disconnect the antenna, and the Lincoln Tunnel is the best shot for "no reception" and it's 35 miles in the wrong direction.

You should be able to disconect the radio near the motor. Just pull the trunk liner away and look for the antenna motor. Other than that I'm clueless.

i work for AHM and deal with the radio codes on a daily basis for Acura's and Hondas.
do you get 3 beeps when you input the 5th number? if not and if youre getting 3 beeps on the 3rd or 4th number, then that means youve input the number incorrectly and there might have been previous numbers in the radio.

other times, just reset the radio correctly. You can pull the fuse, but sometimes theres an alternate power source that wont reset the radio.
best thing to do is either disconnect the battery for 10-13 minutes, or
leave the car in the ACC position with the RADIO ON so that it displays CODE / ERROR E / ERRE / ERR ... whatever yours displays. Leave it on this position for 1 hour, and the radio will reset by itself.

if youre still having problems with his, call 1(800)999-1009 and we'll forward you over to our technical support department for assistance. have your VIN ready.
hopefully you reach me and I'll try my best to help you out.

It's a common problem for second Gens. If you have the correct code, disconnect the Antenna plug on the back of the radio before entering it.

I've tried EVERYTHING and nothing works. So, now I have to pull the radio's antenna cable. Does anyone know of a link to show the disassembly/diagram for the unit as I don't want to mess it up. Thank you.

How does the VIN work? From my understanding you can't look that information up by the VIN, especially if the radio has ever been replaced under warranty, that new radio isn't linked to the VIN? If you can I'm gonna start calling you from work.

It's a window antenna, so the plug should come out somewhere above the back glass and tuck under the roof liner. See if it disconnects there easily.

Mugen,
Thanks for the idea. I'll give it a try. By the way, they want the vin to assure themselves that they're not facillitating some crook. They check to make sure that they are helping the owner.

If anyone is still reading this thread, it is helpful to know that if your vehicle has GPS navigation, the first code the system asks for is the nav code (4 digits), not the radio code (5 digits). At least that was the case for our '09 Accord -- that's why we kept getting a 3 beeps upon entering the 4th number.
