Honda accord 1999 wont start
I was driving it just fine all day and i turn it off and when i go back to turn it on it wont start. There is no fire, to turn not even a single noise accept for the buzz of the check engine light although I've never heard of a car doing it before. I can hear the ignition switch engaging so it is not that. Also i tested the starter and the starter solenoid and those are fine as far as i can tell and the battery is fine. From my other reading seems some people have had similar problems and it happened to be the alternator but I'm not sure thats my case. Any ideas on what it could be. Its my only car and i don;t have any way to get anywhere else.

Re: Honda accord 1999 wont start
Either those mentioned or your starter power wire is loose. Mine tends to come off while I'm driving and next thing I go and start it, it wont even crank over or nothing. So check that starter wire coming out from the engine harness.

Re: Honda accord 1999 wont start
are any belts turning when you turn the key over? If not try to jump start your car. Still nothing? Try hammering on your starter not the wires while someone else is trying to crank the car over repeatedly. Let us know the results.

Re: Honda accord 1999 wont start
Alright,
What i have done to check the starter is hook jumper cables to the positive end of my battery then put a screwdriver on both the starter and the solenoid and they both turned over( when i placed it on the solenoid it actually turned the engine instead of just spinning) but it wouldn't start. I know the battery is fine because it had lights and everything even the dome light. I tried checking the wires and everything seems to be fine to me as well as all the fuses and such. Also i did try jump starting it but nothing happened, also no belts turn when i do anything aside from the one time when the engine turned. Thanks for your help guys. |
Re: Honda accord 1999 wont start
do your alternator belts etc move at all when turning key over 100% of the time? im nto understanding your post.
just becuase the dome lights work dosnt mean it has enough juice to crank over. but usually youll see the belts move for a brief second then here a series of a zapping sound. thats a bad battery. |
Re: Honda accord 1999 wont start
well before it started to work it would turn everything but i'll go and check the battery again just to be sure.

Re: Honda accord 1999 wont start
are you sayin before this problem it would turn over? or the belt turnover now? its yes or no answer man.
|
Re: Honda accord 1999 wont start
before the problem everything would turn. Now nothing turns.

Re: Honda accord 1999 wont start
yes, the belts do not move at all while the key is turned every time.
I have an Automatic. I'll trying beating on it some lol. |
Re: Honda accord 1999 wont start
no avail man. Still wont turn.
|
Re: Honda accord 1999 wont start
get a bigger hammer lol, seriously it will work, have a helper turning the key off and on, while your beating on the starter solenoid. you can also you a big punch or something similar to give you more hammer room.

Re: Honda accord 1999 wont start
another thing to test is when you turn your key see if your stater cable is getting a signal with a volt meter. if volts present, your starter is the problem. If no volts present you got another problem to diagnosis.

Re: Honda accord 1999 wont start
I think its a fuel system problem.
I was trying to ump it again because i wans;t satisfied and i would turn over in natural but not in park. though it still wouldn;t start. So i believe the starter is fine. Interesting thing was when i was trying to start it the rive light would flash rapidly but only in neutral. So maybe a relay switch is bad and possible a fuel pump problem. Any thoughts? |
Re: Honda accord 1999 wont start
yeah its not getting any fuel from the fuel pump.
All the fuses are good for that although there is some kinda fail safe that doesn't allow it to start in park if something was wrong with the fuel pump. or something like that. Any suggestions on how to fix this? |
Re: Honda accord 1999 wont start
A problem with the fuel system will not prevent the car from cranking.
At this point I suspect the ignition switch. Try wiggling the key a bit while turning it to position III. |
Re: Honda accord 1999 wont start
i believe it has something to do with the transmission relay switch or whatever because no lights come on for the park-neutral on in drive do those lights come on. Also if this were so it would inhibit the car from receiving fuel and thus no crank.

Re: Honda accord 1999 wont start
Automatic transmission gear position switch. Fail safety that stops the starter from turning in park which also inhibits the fuel pump from engaging. Only in neutral would the starter turn however no gas will pump.
Not the starter. Not the battery. Not some other shit. Certainly not twiddling my thumbs. |

I missed the point at which you mentioned that the car would crank in neutral.

Re: Honda accord 1999 wont start
Have you tried jump starting it? Something similar happened to me a few months ago. Turned out to be a bad battery, it would hold charge overnight.
