1990 Honda Accord EX - Where is transmission fluid located?

Where is transmission fluid located on the engine block?

It should be on the passenger side in front near engine block on transmission. Just look down about 10 inches from the top, to the right of your air cleaner housing and you should see a yellow handle dipstick. It is a tight fit but you can reach your hand down there to pull it it to check. Watch out for your cooling fan blades.

To change the fluid the drain plug is just under the dipstick on the outside trans block, facing your front passenger tire area. You have to get underneath and in that area you should see a 3/8 end square bolt head. That is your drain bolt that you use a 3/8
ratchet or straight bar to release and change with Honda ATF oil.

That is how it is on my 96 Accord EX, 2.2 VTEC.

Hope that helps.......Anthony

:) Lets get several things straight:

1) You won't find transmission fluid on (or in) the engine block.
2) What kind of transmission is it?

IF it's an automatic:
The dipstick for the automatic transmission is on the passanger side of the exhaust manifold, below the distributor. It helps to use a flashlight to locate the dipstick as it is really low in the engine compartment. It is about the same height in the engine as the lower radiator hose's exit from the radiator is. The dipstick itself is only about 4 or 5 inches long. Hope this helps. Here's an illustration:

Where do we look if we plan to add more fluid?

lol...... It's located in the transmission.......

You still haven't said what trans you have........ Is it Automatic or manual?

If it's automatic you can add it down the dip stick tube. If it's manual your going to have to get down and dirty and add it to the passenger side of the trans.

Thanks guys, I'll get right to it. By the way, how much fluid should it have?

The dip stick will show you when it's full. If your doing a flush and fill it's 2.4qt and a transmission overhaul is 6qt

Where's the drain plug for it? Is it right under the transmission or on the side where you can see when removing the passenger's wheel?
I have an automatic 4 speed 1990 Accord LX?
Thanks,

Thanks,

Should be at the bottom of the transmission housing. Look for the bolt with a 3/8 inch square hole in the bolt head. You should be able to see the drain plug from the passenger side. If you have a manual transmission, it is a good practice to loosen the fill plug first before the drain plug.

Thanks for the answer. I have an automatic. So the bolt is directly beneath? When I look on the side from the passenger's side, I see a large hex bolt and wonder if that is it? As you described, I think it would be directly beneath and would fit a 3/8 ratchet right?

Thanks,

I took a closer look at the drain plug and it was indeed on the side. You can see it just looking right behind the front passenger's side tire.
Now I need to get a washer before changing the fluid. I wonder what size washer is it? Is it metal or rubber? I wonder if the same washer I use on the oil drain plug can be use here? The oil drain plug I have is 19mm.
Thanks,

Thanks,

If the 3/8" ratchet fits, then you found it.
