3rd clutch pressure switch 99 accord

I called 2 honda dealerships neither one could tell me what part number I need or where its located.
99 accord 4cyl ex automatic threw a p1739 code. I want to just replace the switch. Car drives pretty normal but seems to shift slow when coming to a stop.
I have searched everywhere including google and the only thing I could find were details on the v6 auto switch location.
I know there was a recall but I dont know if the 4cyl were also included, either way Im past 116k so there is no point even saying the word recall because at this point it doesnt even matter.
Ill replace the switch and flush the tranny if it doesnt run right either 5 speed swap or f20b swap.
Can someone please point me in the right direction? If you had this same issue did replacement of the switch resolve the issue?

Thanks for your time

Just picked her up on friday.

As you can see from this:

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...ENSOR-SOLENOID

Honda is of absolutely no help. Even the parts nomenclatures are no help.
I'll see what I can find

So I tried every honda dealership to No avail.
This sucks. the car drives almost normal if your soft on the gas.
I really dont want to destroy my tranny by running it with a bad pressure switch.
Plz someone can you steer me in the right direction?

I saw an answer to this question from a Honda Tech (which I can't seem to find again) that said that item number 14 in the parts list above is the 3rd clutch pressure switch. This is apparently a common item to go bad on this generation of Accord.

Good luck,
Russ

Hey man, I work at a Honda Dealership in Charleston,SC. The 3rd pressure switch is a common problem on these accords. I wouldn't get down in the dumps about it. These is no need to "flush" your transmission, with a pressure switch code, actually Honda doesn't recommend flushing at all, unless with their approved Honda specific machine, that only flushes the trans fluid from the radiator. Now back to your switch, the one you need to replace is in the front, closest to the radiator of the car, down on the left, right below the soleniods. It has an aluminum crush washer much like a drain plug, so make sure you reinstall it carefully an do not overtighten, the new switch should come with a new washer.
Just so you know even up to around 175k miles, Honda will offer what is called a "goodwill" on auto trannys that go out, or get torque converter code, start to slip ect.
They will pay a large portion of the bill, and you the customer end up with around $300-$500 bill out about a $3400 job. Not bad. Hope I helped you out.

thanks for the info, I paid 69 dollars for the part, It fixed the upshift issue, Car drives great.
Only thing is I still get a slow downshift into first when coming to a stop.
Is there a special procedure I should go through after disconnecting the battery as to allow the ECU to adjust to everything?

Low430,

This is great news! I have the same code on my 1999 accord. I am trying to understand if it is a switch problem or a transmission problem. Is your transmission still working well, or did the problem eventually return?

I understand it was fixed at first, but if the problem was due to debris in the tranny clogging the passages or screens, then I assume it would return over time.

Is the part definitely #14 in the diagram in this thread? Looks like the bottom most sensor on the tranny right?

I have the 4 cyl btw.

Please forward any info you might have learned about this issue.

Thanks,
Rich

Re: 3rd clutch pressure switch 99 accord

Can I resurrect this topic? Just got the P1739 code, 3rd clutch pressure switch. The link that PAdams posted doesn't offer any diagram that I see. I have a 98 2.4L LX so I'm assuming its the same part. Can someone PLEASE help me with an exploded view or Part# for the switch? Part # would be most helpful!!

EDIT: Just found an Acura TL DIY 3rd gear pressure switch write-up. In it I found part # 28600-P7Z-003. Anyone have an Accord part #?

Re: 3rd clutch pressure switch 99 accord

I just bought a 2000 accord lx experiencing a lot of what is described here. But cold the trans couldn't be any better but after about an hour of driving it starts slipping, jumping in and out of gear and d4 indicator light starts blinking. Is that all caused from the pressure switch being faulty or do I need to start looking for a tranny?

Beg/Borrow/Steal an OBDII coder reader, and pull the codes.

Re: 3rd clutch pressure switch 99 accord

I have had the codes pulled. 3rd clutch pressure switch faulty and solenoid switch faulty. I am going to have these repaired but will that faulty clutch pressure switch cause all the problems that I described. When the car/trans is cold, you couldn't ask for a car to run any better but after about an hour of driving it starts slipping, popping in and out of gear, jerking, and the D4 indicator light will start blinking. I don't want to start nickel and diming this, I'm curious about whether or not to start looking for a tranny or will replacing the switch cure it. It started about 2 months ago and we haven't driven it a lot since.

Re: 3rd clutch pressure switch 99 accord

3rd clutch pressure switch is located under the linear solenoids and main shaft sensor. Check for damaged wire harness or leaking switch.
If the switch is faulty, the trans will not shift correctly. PCM needs the switch output signal to determine the correct shift point. It may cause other shifting errors/codes to occur.

Would be best to post all the powertrain codes.

Re: 3rd clutch pressure switch 99 accord

Had the trans fluid changed and all problems seem to have disappeared. The "check engine " light even went out. Its been a week now and the problem has not returned
