How to install distributor?
I know you're supposed to mark the rotor and distributor base before removing the old one but I bought a motor with the distributor off. I installed it as it would fit and I'm getting every cylinder to fire but the engine won't run. I'm thinking the distributor was installed wrong. Any help?

Re: How to install distributor?
there is usually a line on the distributor and a dot on the cam line them up might be other way around or might both have lines...

Re: How to install distributor?
Did you plug the plugs in? Always happens to me LOL. As far as I know, I could never install it in wrong, if it's 180 off, it doesn't sit flush. So if it's flush, you installed it correct. If the motor has been sitting for a long time, you probably just have to crank it for awhile.

Re: How to install distributor?
Okay so I basically couldn't have fudged the install up? I thought there was a way I could screw the rotor position up compared to the dizzy shaft (my manual is very had to decipher).
Are my spark plug wires correct? I have it installed on the dizzy like this: --3 1--4 --2 It's strange that every cylinder fires but it won't run. This makes me think the timing is off a hair. The dizzy base has a slot that looks like I can advance/retard timing with but I can't rotate it because the 2 other bolts go through holes, not slots. :\ BTW, dizzy is plugged in ;) |
Re: How to install distributor?
I don't know if your plugs are right but if someone is to tell you they will need to know what engine.

Re: How to install distributor?
you can only put a dizzy on 2 ways the right way or 180 degrees off.. i just had to do one on my 1.5... your plugs sound off to me they are in order from left to right its eirther 1234 or 4321. im at work so i cant check right now but try that and if that dose work its 180 degrees off it happened to me. crank but wont trun over. quick fix

Re: How to install distributor?
The engine is a d15b7. I can't find the dizzy order anywhere but I'm fairly certain that the plugs on all distributed Honda 4 cylinders are the way I said. Please correct me if I'm wrong. https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/d16z6-firing-order-821403/
#1 is furthest from the tranny. So left to right it's: 4-3-2-1. I've tried the wires many, MANY ways and the way I said above is the only way I get firing in every cylinder. |
Re: How to install distributor?
same engine as me. yea 4321 sounds right if its not starting up its 180 degrees backwards.
|
Re: How to install distributor?
yea and with your timing it has to be pretty far off because you can go 4 degrees advanced or retarded and still start the motor thats about the furthest i know you can safely go on a b series though and thats still not recommended

it shouldn't matter if you have the wires in the right order they should all still fire just not at the right time.

Re: How to install distributor?
I'm going to hi-jack your thread ....
I'm not having any luck finding a New OEM distrib. for a 97 EX So far all searching finds is TD-98 which I think is remanufactured-many on Ebay,,? |
Re: How to install distributor?
I got a question about this as well.... So I just installed my new distributor and i want to know what angle does the distributor has to sit on cause on my old distributor i marked it to know where its gonna sit back. But since i got a new distributor i don't know what angle it has to sit. Would this cause my rpm to rev higher or have lower rpm. ????????????

Re: How to install distributor?
alotawatts - if you are looking for a new distributor, try www.hondapartsunlimited.com. If you are interested in a used distributor, keep searching on ebay and hondamarketplace. Im unsure on what the code of the distributor is.
Christopherian1982 - ....not really sure what you are trying to say..If you are putting a brand new distributor on, your going to have to adjust your timing. if you just throw it on, it will be off by a few degrees and it will not make it rev higher or lower..it just wont run as good. |
Re: How to install distributor?
line it up ; and put it in ; if it doesnt go in straight turn 180 keep trying

Re: How to install distributor?
if you look at the bolt marks on your old dizzy and try to put you new one on as close as you can you'll be fine. as long as your car is NA its not going to change much.
