Street Legal ATV in NY?

Just curious what it would take to make an atv street legal here in NY?
I have searched around a little and people have done it in other states, but is it possible to do in NY?
Just curious, I am thinking of starting a project. . :D

LOL...
Most states require fenders, lights and bumpers.

not sure about NY... but some states have exemptions for experimentals

I'm not talking about stuff like dot tires, proper low/high beams, turn signals, mirrors, etc etc
I am thinking what would it take in terms of paper work and stuff like that, is it even possible?

Well part of the equation IS to make the vehicle legal from a mechanical stand point... PRIOR to any paperwork being filled. Even in California, one can register off road vehicle IF one knows how to do it. I don't live in NY, but I would think most rules that apply are somewhat universal, California being the strictest by far. Imagine if you will a sliding scale downward from where California is perched

Some states it is possible. I know Nevada is one and one of the fly over states like Missouri/Minnesota/one of the "M" states its also possible. There was a "street legal" Banshee in NY with an R1 motor, he had a website years ago. Some how he got it to pass but it might have just been luck. The shitty thing with ATV's are that they are a 4-wheeled vehicle so most states consider them cars instead of motorcycles so you need seatbelts and all that other good stuff making them virtually impossible to get them street legal.

A company used to sell a conversion kit that would adapt a motorcycle swingarm to a quad making it a reverse trike putting it into the motorcycle category so it could be made street legal. The irony of having to make something less safe to get it street legal.

All I know is in PA there is absolutely no way to legally get an ATV street legal when it has 4 wheels. If someone can prove otherwise I'll paypal them $500.00 becuase I've been researching this for years and its always been a dream of mine.

Good luck

same as in canada, no way to legalize an atv for onroad use. something about any on road vehicle with 4 wheels must have a door/windshield etc

ariel atom and cars such as that? okay so basically instead of other states requirements, im looking for NY only. anyone have any real world experience? when i googled the r1 banshee i found the site, but he does not discuss any detail on how he went about registering it in ny.

happy b-day homo. Its not possible to register a vehicle with an offroad title in newyork. i was gonna buy a supermoto and convert it but.... however you can take it to vermont and register it there. apparently its really easy too.

To get around that you need to get it retitled. You don't tell the DMV it was originally an offroad bike and say its a custom. It may not be "legal" to do but it's the only way to get it street legal

i believe this is the only way, convert it to a trike and you can get past it. ive seen where a guy did this to a 660 craptor, used +4 a arms, a swaybar and dot tires, along with the other stuff needed like lights and turn signals, good thing is most newer quads come with a working brake light.

yeah i have my sights set on a raptor 660...the 700's are too expensive. i'll probably just build a turbo kit for the 660 :D
