I think it's part #9 that your looking for circled in red.

Looks to be located next to the fuel tank on the drivers side.

.
Will this be under the back seat or under the car?

Re: 98 accord problem code p1456

Just an FYI - I've done this job before on a 98 Accord. Car had spent all of its life in Vermont, and was a rusty mess underneath. Not only did I need the pruge valve, but had to replace the cannister, as well as the cannister mounting bracket too. (screws were so rusty on the purge valve, they would not budge)

Once the job was complete, code was cleared & the car was fine. I see you are in TX, so rust might not be an issue. Also, I think there is/was a TSB from Honda on this issue?

Good luck,
Steve

Re: 98 accord problem code p1456

The problem is the canister vent shut valve, but its hard to replace because of how its mounted to the charcoal canister, metal nuts in plastic just spin. So we normally replace the canister and CVS.
The canister vent shut valve is number 8

BTW I've replaced around 20 of these

:| My 1998 Accord EX Cp V6 has this code now (P1456), I replaced the gas cap, also replaced the entire EVAP assemble next to gas tank (canister, pressure sensor, and shut-valve) from a doner car that just passed smog. ??What should I do next, I'm at a loss??

After researching, found that Honda OBD2 Code P01456 is an EVAP Code for fuel tank pressure loss between filler port to tank. Common cause for this code is bad fuel cap, or bent lip of metal fuel port. The other causes can be the connections between the tank, and filler port such as plastic fill tube behind (L) quarter panel, inside (L) rear wheelwell, or the return/over flow tube conections.
I replaced my OEM fuel cap, inspected fuel port lip, inspected conections behind cover in (L) rear wheel well, all was fine. I then removed the cover in the trunk that gives access to the fuel pump, and return vapor lines, found it to very dirty in there, and the connections for the return line to caked with dirt also damp in appearance with a slight odor of fuel. I'm attaching a URL picture of this finding, could someone with the expert knowlage of this type of issue please confirm my findings to be the cause of my OBDII Code of P01456.
Thanks you reading this, and any assistance.

Re: 98 accord problem code p1456

It would appear that the connectors are leaking indeed. Hence the wet dirt.

Re: 98 accord problem code p1456

Then it would be safe to say, this the most likely cause of my EVAP Code of P1456, yes?

Re: 98 accord problem code p1456

More than likely a safe place to start. Leaking fuel at any rate, just isn't safe. Start there, and see what happens. Hopefully it will fix the problem.

Not a problem. Just paying it forward, so to speak.

Is it possible to clean/repair these fuel line connections to stop the fuel vapor leak (cause of my EVAP Code of P1456), or do I have to replace the entire line?
