Water leak into driver side compartment
 

This post serves 2 purposes. 1, to warn people of the hack installs done at some of the big-box stores (this is no surprise) and 2, to ask for help!!!!

A good friend had a remote car starter installed in her 1998 CRV some time ago at a store (Lets call it BB) and has had problems with it. Recently she informed me of the problems she was having with water in the drivers compartment. After checking the sunroof, I pulled off the interior windshield pillar sheathing and traced the drainage tube from the sunroof down to behind the hood release on the driver side. It appears that the tube was actually draining into the inside of the car due to and installer pulling it aside to install wiring for a remote car starter.

My question is, where should this tube exit the car. There is a mystery hole within reach of the tube that appears to go out through the fender bottom but not sure if this is correct.

Anyone have any suggestions?

1st gen cr-vs did not come with a sunroof. Typically on a FACTORY installed unit the sunroof will drain at the mudguards.

Thanks for the reply, I have stuck the tube through a hole that lands just about in that position, so it should drain at the mudflaps. This is a factory unit, or an absolutely amazing aftermarket job, LOL. This is a powered unit that has multiple positions, sunken into the roof and framed up. Not just a hole chopped in the roof with some glass and a rubber seal. It is a 1998 too, at least that is what I am told....cool little truck actually, not as cool as the CRX in my garage but hey, it is more practical for sure.

If you would like pics of the roof, my friend would be more than glad to take pics and post them I am sure. Wouldnt you Laurel?!?

You can post pictures. But it was not an option on those vehicles. I would imagine it has a black key pad that lights up green at night (if I remember those right). I've seen a few cr-v's that have them and they do fit really good.

In response to Ross 2.0's post: This is a factory "moon-roof", not aftermarket install - so whether it was a special order by the original owner, that I dont know - but this is no aftermarket hack-job! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif I have been through that with another vehicle (from a manufacturer I will NEVER purchase from again!! LOL) where the aftermarket sunroof leaked into the back seat of my 2 door coupe - the back seat never did dry out!! Gross!
I think the repair that Mike did, helped - it's just taking forever to dry out. I am sure it was the guys who installed my remote starter that pulled the drainage tube from its original position. We'll see if the problem in 100% resolved when I have the chance to "shopvac" the water out!

I don't know how else to say it. AMERICAN HONDA DOES NOT OFFER A SUNROOF FOR A 1 GEN CR-V!!
The original dealership may have had someone install one, but it DOES NOT come from the factory that way.

I stand corrected. I checked with my Honda dealer to see if I could get some history on the vehicle, and he DID confirm that it is an aftermarket power sunroof.
Unfortunately, he did not have the history to know who installed it. Too bad, because whoever installed it, did an awesome job - you certainly cant tell it's aftermarket!!!
Anyway, not really the point to the post. The sunroof is not the problem - it works fine. I guess everyone should just beware who you hire to do aftermarket installs for anything (remote starters/stereo systems etc) because that is where the problem is with the drainage tube not being put back into it's original position - draining OUTSIDE of the vehicle!! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

I own a 2nd gen 2003 CRV

just a few weeks ago i found water in the glove compartment and the bottom compartment of the center console

i thought it came from condensation of the air consitioning "something" (hoses, blowers), because i moved to a very hot place to live and have been using the AC all day

but reading this i think this could be the problem

does any one knows about this drain tube from sunroof? in this CRV's?
