94 Honda EX Surging Idle

I just bought this car for 1100. When it is idleing it surging from 1000 to about 2000 over and over. I took it to get a diagnosis and there was no codes. They then told me that the unging had been swapped. It has a different Vtec engine in it. What should i check??? 94 Honda EX Vtec

start with finding out what engine you have and if the ecu is the right one

Re: (Bozo_JDM)

How do I find what engine it is?

Re: (schlabobble)

take a picture of it and post it. Or, theres a little ID plate on the block.. it should be facing you. I think they are over the tranny.. so look on the left right under where the head meets the block.

Look for f22xx,f23xx or h22xx, h23xx. those would be the most common to find. the xx's should be numbers depending on what it is.

once you found wat engine and if everything checks out alright check the throttle body somtimes you get carbon build up and that can also cause the surging idle

Re: (Bozo_JDM)

It could be your IACV, idle air control valve or you could have a Vacuum leak. They sell a leak solution (carb cleaner, go to autozone, napa, etc) to find where the leak is coming from. It blows smoke through the lines and you are only supposed to see it come out of the exhaust. If it comes out of anywhere else in your hood then that's your leak. Hope this helps.

i have the same problem. but i have the f22b1 engine, check you intake filter for clogs, fast idle thermo valve ( check FAQ) also check iacv for carbon buildup and spray some carb cleaner on throttle body..

on my case it is still surging. so i just bought a new iavc hopefuly it will arrive anytime soon...

I'm fixing the same exact problem first thing tomorrow.

Make sure throttle cables are adjusted right, too. In one case, someone adjusted my cables too tightly and it caused this problem. Fixed by giving 1 inch tension.

Easy fix, replace the thermostat. My 94 did this and it drove me nuts until I figured it out. The water temp sensor is being confused because the thermostat is not controlling the water flow properly. This messes with the idle control valve. You'll find the thermostat is stuck open.

Alright i will try all of the above and hopefully it works. I'll keep everyone posted and get some pics up

Man I got up early this morning and did a tune up dizzy cap and rotor, spark plugs, wires, filter, checked and filled all fluids, PLO change and oil filter. Same issue with the rpms. I removed my iacv and in the two holes some jerkoff stiluffed them with aluminium foil. I removed I an sprayed carb cleaner on it. The iacv was damaged at the part where you add the sensor the plastic part had a crack in it. I put it back on and same shit. Maybe tomorrow if I have time I will check for vacuum leak and then go shopping for another iacv. Found them for $125-130. It's aleatning experience though this has been my first job. I don't know if it's due to the motor motor being swapped it's a D16y8 maybe wrong ecu was put in?

Re: 94 Honda EX Surging Idle (schlabobble)

you and me are on the same boat buddy. I have a hose that doesn't connect to anything and RPMs just bounce around. So annoying. I wish I would have bought another Accord. People there seem to know alot more than people in the Civic Section. I have a 96 Accord as well, I'm always in that section.... Sucks.

Its hard to tell from the pic, but that looks like it comes from the fuel injector harness. As in should it be plugged into one of your fuel injectors? The only other thing I can think of that would be right around the injectors is a air injection system that might have had a sensor or solenoid plugged into that. (not sure what engine it is or it it did use a air injection system)

Sorry dude, looks like the PO jerry rigged the crap out of that car. I think I read something in the FAQ about if the intake manifold was changed to a manifold without air injection, you would have 4 small holes right next to where the intake runners meet the engine head. You could have a vacuum leak there? The holes would need filled with JB weld or other suitable substance to block them off...

Good luck!
