Blinking D4 Light on 97 Accord EX

I have a dilemma I am hoping someone can help me with. I have an automatic 1997 Honda Accord EX sedan. It recently just started to give me a "check engine" light when I turn on the vehicle.

After I put it into gear and begin to drive, the D4 light on the cluster starts to blink. I noticed that if I drive in D3 or below, the D4 light still continues to blink. It even blinks when I put it in N or Park. The blinking does not stop until I turn off the vehicle.

I do notice it drives normal, except when it is about second gear. It is sluggish on climbing MPH when going between 2nd-3rd.

I have done a few searches on Honda-tech and Google as well. Most article leads to a replacement of a TCU or ECU / or both. I found a few where the transmission actually needed replacement.

Can someone give me any insight if you have experienced this yourself? I may try to find a used TCU/ECU on eBay before even considering what I will do if I need to replace the transmission. If anyone have the information off the top of their head, what is the model number for an automatic 1997 Honda Accord EX ECU and TCU? All I have been able to find are the LX models (mainly for the 94-95). Will this even fit?

I do not know as much about automatics, but I know that the D4 light blinks when there is a problem with the transmission. If the TCU or ECU is bad, then it could cause the light to blink as well. Try searching for methods of how to trouble shoot the TCU and ECU. If you get a repair manual, it should give you some steps to troubleshoot these as well.
