Maaco Paint Job have questions
 

I just saw a special for a paint job from maaco. A paint job from them cost $200. My question is if the paintjob is any good and if the body work they do any good?

im just going to guess and say no. paint and body work is usually you get what you pay for...

Its only a 1 stage paint job if your looking for a paint job to get all your panels to match you might as well do it yourself with some spray cans or roll it on and sand the crap out of it but it would be the same turn out and the price wont be to much difference. Just my 2 cents.

Edit:
Oh also for that paint job, they don't do any body work they usually don't even sand it down they just spray over what ever you got on the car all ready. You get what you pay for.

I second that.. not really high quality.
though my previous civic had a good coat on it from maaco, it was an off color and you could tell they did minimal masking if you looked hard enough.

also when i changed my bumper it was off color even though it was painted with the OEM color... that was not cool.

My friend got his truck painted over there back in high school, it stayed shiny for several years. But we did all the prep work ourselves, so that all they had to do was spray it. It came out good, for the price. You should have the dent repair guy pull your dents for you, then sand/prime the car yourself.

Like someone above said, they will not mask the car very well either...pretty much everything on the car will get overspray on it.

However, I have another friend that spent $800 at Maaco back in high school and his paint is still shiny to this day (he got it painted in 2000). Once again, him and his dad did all the body work and prep, but Maaco spent extra time with the masking and used higher quality paint.

they have 4 levels of paint job.. does the next step up of paintjob strip the current paint?

dont do it...it will NOT be mirror shine or glossy

Maaco actually does pretty good paint jobs...they just don't ever turn out well becuase they don't prep or tape well if at all. Think about it..they're sprayers probably have twice the experience everyone else does just because of the sheer volume of cars they do. If you bring them a shell that is absolutely ready to paint...even the $200 special will look decent and last for 5-8 years if taken care of. They actually used dupont paint on all their levels of paint jobs (including the cheapest) last time I was there. Some branches are better than others, and make sure you try and meet the painters and bodymen there so they feel accountable when they know they're spraying YOUR car.

its going to depend from shop to shop,some turn out decent and others not so much...its up to you if you want to take that chance.

thanks for all the advice. And another question wat is the best way to sand and prime my integra? For example wat kind of sand paper or wat kind of primer do u recommend?

Once in a while you get an OG to spray your car, but dont count on it.

My freinds repainted his integra there and it was cool for about a month.. Till it started chipping.

So basically the best thing to do is pay the extra money and get it professionally painted

yea man your definatlly gonna be happy with it. You get what you pay for.

if you must bring it to maaco...take all the trim off..fix all the dents, chips, rust etc...wet sand with 400 grit and bring it to them ready to paint. you'll get your money's worth (especially if its only 2 bills)

Couldn't have said it better myself.

With Maaco its always a hit and miss. Maaco is a franchise and independently owned. Every painter is skilled differently. So which Maaco you select will determine your results. I would recommend to visit numerous Maaco shops in your area and take a look at their finished cars to get an idea of their work.

I personally have seen nice looking paint jobs from Maaco. To be on the safe side, you should do some prepping, masking, and removal of some parts yourself to "limit" overspray.

For $200, you really can't loose. Especially if your car is all different colors, it can't look worse than that anyway. I have an 89 F-150 for a work truck that I'm going to get painted by maaco b/c I hate the color it is right now (Green and Tan). I want to put as little money as possible into it, so it's a good option.

If I cared about it, I'd probably wait to get a decent paint job. I would never take my integra to Maaco. Also, they usually try to upsell you more options, so I doubt the final cost would be $200 when all is said and done.

they're alright for the price.is not gonna be 200 cause they have to sand the car down.

do you guys think they would do all my jams and stuff for $200?? atleast that way i can take it to a real shop and have them paint the body with good paint.

Nah.. Jams, under hood, and trunk are going to be extra charges.

A cousin of mine did body work for maaco years ago, and he told me that it's all what you pay for. If you pay for a $200 paint job, it's going to show... It won't look like a $3K job, but if it's a beater I wouldn't care.

I considered doing this myself with some of my past beaters, but never did get around to it.
