Just bought a 95 Civic... oil in the overflow tank, low compression on #4, smoking bad out the back.

Alright so I just bought a 95 Honda Civic DX (I'm assuming). It's a 5spd. It has a D16y7 engine swap and is running an automatic P28 ECU.

The thing smokes like crazy. Got home. Did a compression test and here are the results:

1 - 230
2 - 240
3 - 240
4 - 150

#4 spark plug is just completely covered with baked on oil. Spark plugs 1-3 are in perfect condition.

The coolant overflow bottle is filled with oil and coolant. There is some oil leaking out the throttle body some through the IACV (whoever did the swap, swapped out intake manifolds and surprisingly did a really good and clean job swapping it. Only thing was they didn't change the ECU's and just unplugged the CHECK ENGINE light, but they couldn't slide that by me). The only 3 codes being displayed are 2 for VTEC and 1 for the automatic transmission (P28 Auto ECU).

My questions:

1. I am assuming the head gasket is gone, would you all agree?
2. What ECU is used to run a D16y7 manual transmission? And is it OBD2? If so, what OBD1 ECU would run the engine?

Thanks

Yes, either that or a cracked block

That would be a P2E sir, and yes its OBD2, the closest ECU that OBD1 would be the PO6 found in the DX/LX you can add CX/EX to that list as well if your in canada. They aren't hard to find and shouldn't be worth all that much. I wouldn't be in any hurry to get rid of that P28 though, you can convert that to a 5 speed quite easily, they're also worth some money and very easy to sell if you wish to.

Ya I will probably just end up selling the P28.

And I'm hoping its the headgasket, but yes it could be a cracked sleeve (I'm hoping not).
