Help - How do I flush R-12 out of my A/C system (Acura Integre 1992 GS)

I'm going to retrofit it to use R-134a instead!

replace receiver/drier, evacuate AC system, replace fittings, vacuum entire AC system, add oil & refill with refrigerant. This all should work if you don't have any leaks already

yup what he said.. except my car already uses 134A so I didn't need the retrofit fittings it .. I just did my A/C recharge today on my 95 R134a system.. make sure the kit you have has metal fittings on the blue A/C line/hose.. the plastic ones tend to not work as well/leak when ur adding refrigerant sometimes..

there are R134a retrofit kits from Kmart for $29.99 (it was on sale this week) that come w/ like 3 bottles, the R134a fittings (for high and low line), blue a/c hose/line but it was plastic fittings/couplings = (... I also got a guage for like $10 so I could know when it was full and I got an inside thermometer to test the inside center vents temp for $5 from pep boys... that plastic crap started leaking.. so I got metal coupling a/c lines and metal T-tap for $10...

after your system is empty, since yours isnt R134 your going to need to put on the new high and low adaptor/nipples... now start your car and run your a/c at max.. and start filling the system.. your retrofit kit should have bottles w/ refrigerant and oil... when its full (look on the a/c sticker under the hood for the capacity) stop and test to see that its cold.. you can get a guage like I did for a more accurate fill... then it should be all good.. took me about 30 mins to refill it this afternoon..

Thanks for the Info - Can you guys tell me exactly where the High and low pressure A/C lines are? Just to make sure!

OK first off I've never worked on the A/C in your generation teg.. so don't quote my advice cuz I don't have a G2... but in general there should be 2 lines.. one is the high pressure line.. one is the low pressure.. the low pressure (which is the one u fill and take the guage readings from) the HIGH pressure lines are usually THINNER/NARROWER... the LOW PRESSURE lines are typically LARGER/THICKER from the outside... mine had a blue cap on the low pressure.. I think it even says L for the low pressure... but yeah look for the THICKER hose and that SHOULD be your low pressure line..

don't quote me though.. like I said I don't have a G2...

not sure if this is relevant to you or not but my friend who has an older Toyota w/ R12 A/C system.. he said the high pressure line on his car had a RED cap.. n the low pressure line had a black cap... not sure if all R-12 systems were like that or not.. but he also said the same thing about the lines..

the low pressure line is thicker/larger.

the high pressure line is smaller/narrower...

this is also what my 134a kit stated... so maybe this is how all A/C's are set up.. not sure though maybe sum1 w/ a G2 can tell u for sure..

Yes, that's correct. All generations of Integra's use the same colored fitting caps.

If you are retrofitting an r12 sysytem, the retrofit kits include a chemical oil with it. My 93 cx is converted, although it is undercharged a little, still blows 42 degrees. No leaks, etc... Good luck

Low pressure side is in front of the engine. High pressure side is on the passenger side near the battery. I wouldnt recommend retrofitting to r-134, there are better alternatiaves than vacuming, flushing, etc.. I have also HEARD that the retrofits can form a sludge in the system over the long term.
Some of us from g2ic have been using the envirosafe kit, with good results.

But of course if you are the type of guy who likes to walk into the local auto parts store and buy your gas, this kit is not for you.

I also bought a gauge today (interdynamics brand)

Can someone tell me how to read it? (My car says it needs 950g or 34oz.)
But my gauge has readings of PSI, KG/cm2 and temp readings of F and C)
(I got results of 125 psi and 8.8 kg/cm2)

Fallen: the guage I got is the same brand as yours.. but not sure if its the same model or whatever.. anyway your PSI sounds kinda high.. you connected it to the low side? or high side? anyway on my guage there is a green area where if u hook it up to your a/c and its green ur low/undercharegd.. then theres a blue area.. if ur in the blue area.. ur OK/GOOD.. if ur in the yellow area.. u have a lil too much.. and if ur in the red area thats really high/too high.. I forget what PSI range corresponds to what but make sure ur in the blue area...
