MAF SENSOR LOCATION??? 97 EX 2 DR.

I am trying to look for the MAF sensor cause im getting the codes P0170 and P0171 and it says i could try cleaning my MAF sensor.. please let me know where it is.. thanks ppl.. and also, im getting a GREDDY full exhaust for $70 used for only a few months.. good deal huh? do you guys really think headers would really benefit HP? thanks..

The header will "free up" some hp, because of a less stricted flow, and adding the exhaust will help even more. Consider keeping your cat, and not replacing it with a "test pipe" or something like that.

The 97 Accord does not have a Mass Air Flow sensor to clean. Not sure about the code P0170. A Honda DTCode P0171 is a fuel system too lean code, this would indicate a problem with the air fuel mixture.

Have you made any modifications to your intake or fuel systems?

my car is completely stock.. i was reading on obdcodes.com or something like that, that it may be the map or maf sensor is dirty and simply cleaning with brake cleaner will soolve this problem.. if not what else could it be? should i just try changing my fuel filter and if that doesnt work, my front O2 sensor?? thanks.

Correct. Mass Air Flow sensors aren't used except on the newer cars.

I'd check for air leaks to start. Don't start replacing parts until you know what part to replace. That can get extremely expensive. The 97 is one of Honda's best body styles as far as reliability and durability. I'd leave that car stock and maintain it as best as possible. It will serve you for years. Faulty O2 sensors are rarely the cause of lean fuel trim DTC's. Air leaks are the most common cause. Fuel filters don't plug unless you are using crap fuel. I've never replaced a fuel filter that caused a drivability complaint.

so possibly an air leak? can you tell where to start looking, or if i should just take it to a mechanic?

How is the manifold vacuum? What is the map sensor voltage? fuel pressure?

I like to use propane to check for air leaks. A smoker is better but not always available to everyone. I don't like recommending propane because I'd hate to see you post back typing weird because your fingers are burned off. If you don't know much about cars and don't have the time to learn, take it to a mechanic.

By the way, the MAF sensor, if it had one, would say MAF on it. Usually.

Use a can of carb/throttle body cleaner it's much safer.

Start your car and let it idle. Take the spray can of cleaner and lightly spray it around your intake gasket, throttle body gasket injector ports and any vacuum lines/ports. Moving along slowly when or if you hear a change in the engines RPMs you have found the area of your leak. The RPMs will usually drop when using carb or throttle body cleaner.

sounds easy enough.. thanks.. ill try to get that done tomorrow.. just to let you know.. since i cleaned my egr ports and disconnected the neg terminal on the battery, the CEL hasnt come back on in about 50 miles or so.. lets hope it stays off.. but ill still test for a leak anyways just to be sure.. thanks again..

Gianinline.. what do you mean by test pipe or something and not removing the catback?
