d-series compression
just ran a compression test on my car and this is what i got:
200 200 210 200 now i'm glad they're all fairly close, but i was wondering if these number are too high (carbon buildup) or too low for a d16z6. hopefully this will handle the boost thats coming in the mail well http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmile.gif |
Re: d-series compression (Pengo)
how did u do ur compression testt??
i only got like 165 to 170 arcross all cylinders |
Re: d-series compression (xbird)
car was already warm. pulled fuse for fuel injection out. took out all spark plugs. screw tube into spark plug well, attach to gauge (i have the quick release one). with clutch and gas held down all the way, crank engine 5 times. i was doing like 8 cranks cuz i read from somewhere else to do it that many times, but then some places said 5, and my friend who was watching the gauge always stopped me at 5-6 cranks anyway cuz the needle already settled. repeat same for all other cylinders.
the ones that got 200 for me were actually exactly on 200 on my gauge, and all were definitely over 180 and under 210 this on a d16z6 with 80,xxx miles and constant maintanence. oil changes every 1000 to 2000 miles |
Re: d-series compression (Pengo)
so is this decent or what? http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: d-series compression (Pengo)
Did a test on a car I was gonna buy and here is approximtely what I got:
120 130 145 140 This was a d16z6, and needless to say I didn't buy it. |
Re: d-series compression (JMU1337)
i was running 225-250 in each on my mini me, so that sounds ok
|
Re: d-series compression
i have a d15b7 3xx,xxx miles, 92 civic lx 4dr, 195, 200, 200, 192 dry comp test, injectors pulled as well as fuse and pumpo kill switch, all plugs pulled, WOP 3-5 cranks....
|
Re: d-series compression
200 is very good.
|
Re: d-series compression
thats a very good engine you should be glad as for a turbo look up specs for the compresion ratio, a compression test doesnt tell you any thing about compression ratio, it's somewhere around 9:1 d series dont go past 10:1, good for a little boost
|
Re: d-series compression
Z6 has 9.2
|
Re: d-series compression
My d15 was 150,180, 150, 150 when I got it. your numbers are great
|
Re: d-series compression
i'm going to rebuild it this winter, get a rebuilt shoc non-vtec head, and then turbo, custom stronger rods, a6 cam, y8 head gasket. 10lbs boost
|
Re: d-series compression
that seems really high i think its supposed to be at like 135 or something. mines low its 114 in 3 cylinders and 107 in cylinder 1

OP 200-225 is normal for a z6. 185 and below means the motor is getting tired and will possibly need rings soon. |

Re: d-series compression
yea that motor is pretty wasted.

Re: d-series compression
if the motor is the healthy then there is no point in rebuilding it. If you want to build the motor I would say to either sell the block that you have and buy another one to build it (since yours is so healthy) or sell the pistons/rods after u take it out.
But since its so healthy you could boost it and make 200WHP with no problems and not worry about it. |
Re: d-series compression
i have a d16y8 tho. what does the manufacturer say the compressions supposed to be at?

no idea. But it should probably be around that of a Z6.

Re: d-series compression
idk, i know the machine shop i go to charges 10 per piston to put pistons on. Idk how much for rods.
|
Re: d-series compression
non-vtec gives me delivery of power all throughout the rpm range with these motors i believe it to be more benificial to go non-vtec for boost.
