Towing Hondas "4 Wheels Down" with an RV. Which models are OK?
 

Recently my parents sold their 5th Wheel Travel Trailer and purchased one of these beauties:

2008 Fleetwood Expedition

After a couple trips they have decided that they want to tow another vehicle along with them, as sitting around the RV park grows pretty old. Their preferred method of towing is something RV folk refer to as towing "4 Wheels Down" which as implied, means a direct connection of the tow vehicle to the RV WITHOUT the use of a trailer. Onto my questions:

Which moderately priced Honda vehicles are capable of being towed this way and why?

Is there any potential damage that can be caused to the transmission/differential/etc by towing in this manner?

There are various products you can buy to disconnect the drive shaft of RWD vehicles, and electric pumps you can add to automatics so they can be towed and whatnot but the folks aren't trying to mod their 07 BMW in any way nor entertain the idea of towing it anywhere for that matter.

Any input you guys can provide would be very much appreciated.

Not much to offer, but I assume most all front wheel manual trans Hondas only have to be in neutral to be towed on all 4's. Our '02 automatic CRV-EX (real time 4wd) has a proceedure to follow in the owner's manual to prepare it for towing in such a manner. Basically,(Just recalling from fuzzy memory here, never actually had to do it) run the engine with the trans in drive, shift to reverse and shut off the engine and place the shifter in neutral. Again, the owner's manual should state the proper precautions to take for a specific model, or, a phone call to a knowledgeable dealer or independent Honda shop may get you your answer.

Anyone know of any potential damage to a manual transmission from being towed in this manner? I wonder if there is any type of lack of lubrication due to the car being towed without power.

You cannot "dingy" tow a manual transmission car.

Upon further research into this subject I have learned that you are incorrect. There are a multitude of vehicles that are OK for dinghy towing, including some 4WD and even auto trans cars. Different manufacturers have varying precautions that must be taken, the most universal of which is that the max towing speed is 65 MPH.
