autozone-pepboys fog's

would it be possible to buy some fog lights from autozone or pepboys, etc.
And just use the housing and replace the bulbs and wiring with some piaa or hid bulbs?

thanks https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/embeer.gif

In most cases, you can just swap out the bulb with a Piaa or other aftermarket bulb.

if you want to install the HID, you need to add the ballast and HID bulbs

where can i find out which PIAA bulb fits in my foglights? like theres different kinds of bulbs or sumhting on the PIAA site; H1 H3 H11 etc..

Most of the aftermarket universal foglights use 55w H3 bulbs.

Autozone also sells blue coated h3 bulbs by Pilot, last time I checked they were less than $8 each.

Re: autozone-pepboys fog's (White95SiHB)

oh, eight dollars is cheap... why do PIAA sell their H3 bulbs for like 70 dollars..?
are they like brighter or better in any way?

and on the PIAA site it says :

H3 SERIES INTENSE WHITE
Twin Pack 10903
Single Pack 10933
Bulb Type H3
Wattage 55w = 100w, 4100K
Technology Intense White

does that mean that its a 55w bulb but it gives off 100w or something? i dun really get it. and do you know if PIAA bulbs typically last long or not at all, compared to halogen bulbs?

My head light bulbs are at 5000K and its a white color, so should i get 5000k temperature for my foglights if i want the same color? because on PIAA it says that the 5000k H3 bulbs gives off a BLUE color instead, and im just confused about which one i should get if i want the same WHITE color as the S2000 HID bulbs that im going to use for my headlights.
Thanks

'Intense White Technology' is just some clever sounding term used by Piaa to market their products. It doesn't mean squat.

'55w = 100w' is another marketing term also. What Piaa is trying to say is that the light given off by their 55w bulbs looks similar to the light output/color temperature of a 100w bulb.

Basically you're paying for the Piaa name.

Pilot blue coated bulbs look just like Piaa bulbs. The difference between the two in light output and color temp is minimal and not worth the price difference. Pilot and Piaa bulbs last about 2-3 years on average.

The blue coating on the Pilot bulbs tend to chip off but it doesn't affect the color of the light output.

oh thanks, well just to know. suppose IF i do get lights from PIAAsince my 5000K is white, should i get PIAA 5000k bulbs (which they say is BLUE) or should i just take their word for it when they said their 4000K bulbs are white? is PIAA's colors wrong or something?

Re: autozone-pepboys fog's (htsang07)

Piaa's bulbs do produce white light. The higher the color temperature, the whiter the light, but the lower the light output.

anything between 3800k and 4100k has a decent white color as well as usable light output.

oh, and according to the wattage "55w = 110w" or whatever, the output is still only 55w right? i dont wanna like burn out anything because supposedly the car can only take a certain amount of watts for the foglight or sumthing?

Yes. The bulbs are still consuming 55w of power. Piaa just makes their bulbs look good by saying their bulbs look equivalent to other bulbs that consume 110w of power.

how long do foglights lasts for before having to change the bulb?

White95SiHB 03-05-2008 10:49 PM

Re: autozone-pepboys fog's (htsang07)

From my experience, aftermarket h3 bulbs last about 2 to 3 years.

The regular h3 bulbs in my OEM style foglights are going 7 years strong.

Pep Boys, Autozone, Kragen, Wal-Mart.

Or if you buy foglights from any of those places they'll already have clear bulbs.

Im not sure whether or not to get yellow foglights or just white light. is yellow light really better than white light? and how much better is yellow light from white light?

according to http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/....html they say that yellow light is NOT better than white light..

I find yellow to be a bit better in the rain, but in normal or foggy conditions the color doesn't really matter.
